Why I like my Sebenza ! What Sebenza will I like ?

Since december 2000, I’m the happy owner of a small (standard serrated) Sebenza .

I’m a big person (2830 ounce for 73.6 inch (1.87m et 80 Kg, sorry for the unit)) with big hands (7.9 inch form the wrist to the middle finger end and a 3.6 inch palm width) but the small Sebenza fits my hand very well ! I don’t have any problem to open and close the knife with one hand and to do all the tasks an EDC knife is (in my mind) made for.

This knife never leaves me and there are many reasons I like my Sebenza but the most important are :

- the strong and precise mechanism : it always works very fine even it isn’t well kept ! (I don’t use any lubricant. There is a scratch on the blade end side dues to the marble in the liner (do you see what I mind ?) Make sure that this scratch and the marble are clean and you obtain a very smooth opening)

- the construction simplicity : the design is very pure and don’t scare people around me.

- the sharp resistance (I only rub sometimes the edge on a piece of leather and the knife cut like a new one) (I’m not sure but I think the edge is concave and not linear)

For this 2 years, I was buying many other well-know brand knives. I’m always very disappointed. The mechanism is to much complicated and hard to maintain, the finish quality is poor, the design is not relevant… I think when you have taste the Sebenza it is very difficult to like other knives.

Now, I want to save money and to buy a second Sebenza. But I hesitate, should I buy a small classic or a large standard ? My wish is to use the new knife as a second one (if the first is take apart…etc) and maybe to do more difficult tasks. But I’m afraid the large standard is to big and will scare people (and police officier) and I don’t want to buy an another small standard. Can you give me your point of view ? Have you some pictures of a small with a large standard or with a small classic ?

Thank in advance !

With bigger hands, I think you will appretiate a large Sebenza more than your small one. The regular Sebenza with the wider blade with is less threatening looking than the Classic in my opinion. I happen the carry a large reg with a SS Damascus blade and it does not draw undo attention. I feel the darker blade of the Damscus draws less attention. But then again, I don't go "Flippin" it out if I need to use it. Discretion in how you apply the knife to the chore around people is a biggie. I don't think an officer would think the knife is threatening if presented in a casual mannor. Then again, I wouldn't be pulling it out around any!

You will love the large regular Sebenza. It will do all the small one can and so much more. I really like using mine in the kitchen cutting veggies. So does my wife!:)

Actually, it's a convex blade, but I think that is what you were trying to say.;)

Here is a pic of large and small sebenzas like you requested. This came from CR website and is of Lisa's picks for December. The two on top are Larges and the one on the bottom is a small.

Have you thought about getting one of the NICA tanto blades? They have both sizes. You can find NICA dealers by going to their website.
www.nicacutlery.org

Then there are all the variations you can get straight from
CRK.....swedge, semi-precious stones, damascus, lions, tigers, and bears, OH MY!
