Why I missed the NorCal get together

I spent the last two weeks touring Oregon and Northern California. The trip culminated in a couple of days in San Francisco and then 5 days in Big Sur at my brothers house.

I planned on going to the NorCal meet and hanging out with all of the guys there on Sunday but fate intervened...

Saturday Morning me, my wife and my sister-in-law watched a lightning storm move up the coast. Within 30 minutes we heard fire sirens and spotted the beginning of the Basin fire, located in Big Sur California.

Highway one was closed shortly thereafter and stayed closed until after I left to come back to Memphis on Tuesday. The 2 hour drive to San Jose had become a 4.5 hour drive.

Needless to say I had been looking forward to the Busse meet the entire trip and am incredibally bummed out about it- especialy since I had not held a Busse in close to 2 weeks.

However, I did manage to take some awesome shots so enjoy. FWIW my brother has not been evacuated yet, but it is still touch and go. Since he lives on state property, he is probably not to worried about his house. However, some of his friends have lost their homes, and he has been trying to help move their stuff out of harms way.

Dope photos, brother. The evening shots look like a volcanic eruption. Great that you had your camera with you.

Amazing photos. Sorry you could not make it. I guess you will have to fly out for the next one to make up for it. :D

I am going to bump this once just in case anyone was curious to see the beginning of the Big Sur Basin fire.

I spoke to my brother and they are backburning from Big sur down Highway one with a helitorch- it is basically a large flamethrower suspended from a helicoptor. I will see if he can supply more pictures.
