Why I purchase Kershaw.

My son was given a small pocket knife from a fairly well known company for Christmas and it was broken. I am having a time trying to contact them.
Several threads I have seen on this board about having problems with Kershaw knives (which happens with any thing mechanical) showed the companies fantastic customer service which does not exist in most places anymore. This is why my last few pocket knives were Kershaw and why my next few will be also. Thanks for producing a quality product at a working mans price and then backing it up Kershaw. ;)

I'm with you BRASMAN! The last 2 knives I've purchased were Kershaws. I've had good results from Victorinox as well.

Before joining these forums recently, other than my awareness of Kershaw's fine warranty included with their knives, I was otherwise unaware of the excellence of their customer service. This was simply because none of the Kershaw's I've purchased have ever been less than perfect out of the box and continue to provide flawless service to this day. However, I've seen more than enough examples now from this forum to convince me that their customer service is second to none.

I started purchasing Kershaws a few years ago after being attracted to a KS1550ST Blackout (all black, combo edge) behind the counter at a local WalMart. After asking to see the knife and opening and closing it a few times, I was hooked. I couldn't believe the quality of the knife for the price. It was also my first experience with a liner lock and it was so intuitive my hand literally discovered how to use it on its own. And then there's SpeedSafe, which I really like. That was my first purchase, and I've acquired 3 additional Kershaw models and 2 Zero Tolerance models since then. The number of KAI products I own would be much higher (I'd love some Shun kitchen knives, too), but I just can't afford to spend as much as I would like to on knives. My 2 recently-purchased ZTs are, according to my wife, my gifts from her for every possible gift-giving occasion for the next several years. Anyway, my point is I started buying Kershaws because of their sheer quality and value. For years previously I'd carried Gerbers, Victorinox SAKs, and various Leatherman iterations with a knife blade or two. I still have these, and still use them. But when I just need to cut something I invariably reach for one of my Kershaws.

It's funny...I ran across a thread on another forum site where a user dropped his $300+ neck knife from a very well-known premium manufacturer on his tiled kitchen floor and watched in horror as it snapped in half. Many of this manufacturer's knives are in the $400+ range or even higher. About 3 pages into the thread one of the company reps (a major company figure) responded with "THAT SUCKS! Send her in!" which was great, just the type of customer service that you would expect to see, especially when paying those kinds of prices. Now don't get me wrong...this maker's knives appear to be excellent, although I haven't had the pleasure of using one yet. What I found funny was the number of supporters that chimed in with acclamations along the lines of "That's why I buy XXXXXXX knives", or "And some people actually ask what makes a XXXXXXX worth 400+ dollars." Well, this is exactly the kind of customer service that Kershaw backs its knives with, while the vast majority of them sell for less than $100, and all with a level of quality and design innovation worth much more (please don't take this as an OK to raise prices...:)).

So, why do I purchase Kershaw? Well, they got me initially with looks, quality, innovation and value. And they're keeping me with all that and more plus the finest example of customer service I've seen from a major company!

Thanks, Kershaw!

That sums it up in a nutshell for me, reholli.

I would have to agree, even though I got a bad taste in my mouth for Kershaw at first (see my thread "OK, I think I'm done with Kershaw" for reference). Even though I did get the knife replaced once by them, the replacement was disfunctional too, MUCH to my dismay since it came from the manufacturer.

However, what I did get out of the whole thing was not only an appreciation for my Cyclone once it was fixed (by me, it wasn't replaced a second time), but a HUGE surge of personal support for this forum, the people here, and the generosity and kindness that was displayed to me by complete strangers. It was another forum member, Audiopile, that sent me a brand new torsion bar and actuator bar set at no cost to me (Audiopile, are you getting sick of all the public acknowledgement yet? ;)). I spent a few bucks on the torx driver set needed to take the knife apart ($15 or so), and had the knife apart, fixed, and back together in 10 minutes.

Thus far, my Cyclone is fantastic after the parts swap. As long as I make sure I'm getting NEW Kershaw products with all of the design updates (not ones that were assembled 2 years ago that have been collecting dust in some warehouse, like my first cyclone), then I'm sure I'll be happy with all of my future purchases.

Based soley on my experiences with this forums and it's members, I would be a Gold Member right now if we weren't in the process of moving. But, since my wife is our financial guru that takes care of the books, even a $25 expenditure would get me in trouble right now, lol. Give me two or three weeks. :D

well, I too was brought into kershaw from a blackout, which is my friend's EDC. What got me to buy a Kershaw was that was the only company that put out assisted openers with high quality steel that I found. (I looked around, since a lot of people say I'm turning into a mini-Jeff, but most of what I copy has solid logic behind it. He does it for a reason.) I've got some mall-ninja in me (who doesn't?) and even though I don't need AO, I like it. I joined up on the forums to solidify my opinion (look at my name, I'm a bookworm, a knowledge sponge, I try to learn everything about everything) and at the end of the day I not only have a kershaw, but 3 more on the way! (Due in large part to the extensive generosity of this forum. Thomas is hooking me up with a RAM, Dave with a Honker, and NYmarksman gave me a rediculous discount on an offset)

The kershaw community is the most loyal that I have seen, people brand new to the forums are getting offers for everything possible to make sure that whatever problem they may have is solved stat.
