I am looking at the emerson commander I have a few questions for you guys. Could someone plz tell me why I should get one and how does it fair as a edc knife

the only reason I would buy one is if I liked it and I wanted one. If you dont like it why would you buy it? As far as an EDC goes I cant see why it wouldnt be a good option but it is a bit larger than some but not overly too big

Carried one for many years and still is one of my favorite knives but small details like poor edge retention and the LL wearing out every 8 months has left it to collect dust.

 If you like one, buy one...i like emersons and they make great EDCs for the most part

I've owned EKI's for years. Now I don't own a single one and frankly don't miss'em to tell the truth. There was a thread last year on the EKI sub forum here that had me twisted so I said to hell with'em. My own opinion is that there are much better knives being made out there today with better materials that cost less and better engineering design behind them. Now as for your question, if you want it get it simple as that and you shouldn't need anyone to tell ya otherwise. keepem sharp

I like emerson blades however, if you are pretty new to knives Id suggest against the recurve as they can be hard to sharpen

Emerson makes a really nice robust knife, but they're not ideal as far as edc/utility purposes go. They are adequate, but the materials and that asymmetric grind on so many models don't perform as well as comparable folders from the other big companies in my experience.

I have found that Emerson knives have a learning curve associated with them. Once you get used to the single sided edge grind, they will zip through things with the best of them. As well, the 'wave' opening takes some practice, but you can open them with the thumb disk just fine.

I understand where you are coming from, CID as Emersons are not for everyone, but for the devoted, like me, they take on a 'cult' quality that is hard to beat. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I love my Emerson, I just find that it gets bumped from the pocket more often than not in favor of something with a flat grind these days. I've been considering getting a regrind done to make it more conventional, and I imagine that would bring it right back into favor. One thing I'll give Emersons, every one I've held feels incredible in my hand, the ergos are great, and the g10 feels just right

One thing to watch out for as some users have reported is that the titanium liner lock is going to be subject to quite a bit of wear if you wave/flick it open a bit. YMMV, but some people ended up with knives that starting experiencing lock failures/blade play or wobble.
