Why Inverted Shields?

Why do so many makers invert the shield in the knife handles? They just look "Upside-Down" to me. Just Curious about this custom.

i don't invert sheilds, but i think it's just something fancy to put on the knife. some guys like the look of a sheild on the knife.

Don't know if this helps, but I was just reading about a maker who converts manual Case folders to auto. He inverts the shield as his trademark.
