Why is BF so Special

After the outage of the last few days, I got to thinking. I have no life and I need Bladeforums. I do visit all the other knife forums that I know of, but Bladeforums is my homepage, and is the only one I post on, and is the one I read the most by far. I know we have a larger member count here, and a lot more traffic, but why? KF has been around longer. I am more interested in custom knives, than production but I am not that fond of the CKD. I also really am into tactical knives, but I still prefer BF to the USN. I know a lot of the other members here frequent the other forums as well, but seem to post much more over here, so what is it that makes us all come back and hang out here? I love this place.

BladeForums was the first knife forum that I became a member of. I became comfortable here very quickly.

What I have learned from this forum and the friendships I have made here are the main reasons that I spend most of my time on the net, here. When I am able, I like to pass on whatever knowledge that I have learned to those asking the questions I asked when I first arrived.

If it wasn't for BladeForums, I wouldn't be into knives in the way I am now. Until I came here I was happy with the factory knives that I owned. It was BladeForums that brought me into contact with the custom makers and from that point there has been no looking back.

Like so many other things in life, what makes BF special is the people who participate in it.

Alot of it is the folks who run it (Spark and his merry moderators :D) and the rest is just the userbase, folks like you and me.

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.
A forum is only as good as it's people.

Actually, Ted nailed it for me. I've found the most activity and the most interesting discussions here. When someone asks a question here it's often answered in less than a day, usually by multiple posters. It's my homepage too, that's why I was going nuts the last few days!

1. I think my brain has hard-wired itself to this format. I just can't get used to other forums' formats.

2. I feel at home here, it's my home forum. I can come in take my shoes off and fart if I want :)

3. The jovial nature of its members; someone always has their eyes open for the potential for comedy in people's posts, I like that.

4. We keep each other real and honest.

5. I've become very cynical about people in general (living in NY will do that to you). Here I've met, interacted, traded, joked and fought with some of the most honorable ladies and gentlemen that I know. Integrity is alive and well.

Spark has done an excellent job on BF's software interface. The place is easy to use and that means that active threads are more likely to be further exploited instead of dying in mid discussion.

Spot-on. That and because it's a "comfortable" board to use, read, and search. Always moving which keeps it fresh.

I think the activity levels here are what attracts me the most. Other forums, you can post a thread and sometimes NOBODY will reply at all, or sometimes it takes days for a reply. You post a thread here, even if it is a stupid thread, and somebody always replies. And, they reply quickly too. Yes, there are some silly bickering threads, but that kinda goes along with the increased traffic. The more people you have in one given area, the greater chance of an idiot getting through the filters. :)

I like any forum where I learn something...and I learn something new everyday here:) BF has an interesting cross-section of personalities:rolleyes: and that makes it interesting for those of us stuck with only one;) Plus, I really like the smilies :D

The membership here makes BF what it is. A great place to make friends, learn from each other and even help each other out.

Every once in a while we get a person who does not understand what this community is really about so we get a little controversy.

And that adds a little spice. There is nothing wrong with some contoversy every once in awhile; in fact I enjoy it.

Spicy threads seem to bring the most views. I agree they can be fun and it would be boring without them.

Cuz you made me feel so welcome here AND you started the fever that has had me purchase 4 knives since I started...

It's pretty subjective, but I've felt that Bladeforums is a bit more candid than some other places. This is a user forum which tolerates/encourages critical assesment of knives and knifemakers. This forum sometimes rubs manufacturers and vendors the wrong way. Knife makers seem to be pretty sensitive to criticism. Other places they seem more comfortable. I am more comfortable here.

Wow,what a post...can I say that too? :D

I had posts on here that I was waiting to hear back on, and with the forum down I was biting my nails waiting for it's return!

I'm also still recovering from surgery, and sitting at home without the forum really sucked.

Glad it's back.
