Well it has been my 4th knife seized. I am aware to the law, no automatics, no centrifugal blade in Ontario (Toronto). I follow these laws by ordering manual knives. But for some strange reason Border services hates me and keeps on confiscating my knives because their is a "centrifugal blade". I highly doubt this, I suspect that they are saying that so I don't get my knives. I am probably on a watch list.

To be honest I am buying "fake spyderco knives" only for the reason to educate myself on the fakes out there I promise. I own many spydercos and am a loyal customer. But I doubt 4 out of 5 knives have "centrifugal blades". The factories in China are not so bad as to send a knife out to a customer with a blade that falls out. In the letter they send me it states that they can't ship the knife out because postal couriers can't carry prohibited items.

On one ocasion I actually managed to get an officer on the phone who said he would check the knife for me, and he said "yup the blade falls out", I asked him to tighten the pivot but he said they can not touch it.

I can appeal the decision in writing, but even if I win, I have to find my own Currier.

Are border services purposely confiscating these knives to keep fakes off the market. What can I do?

A big question is, How do they know that the knife has a centrifugal blade before inspecting? I have NEVER gotten a knife that has been inspected by customs, I think I am getting bullied, and I hate it.

Iv had dozens of knives come over the border and never had this issue, I doubt they are trying to keep fakes out I doubt they have any idea they are even fake. If I were you I wouldn't order from where ever you are ordering from and simply try to buy within the country. Or use one of the America address places located right over the border and go for a drive and pick them up in person.

I would like to know how customs can tells a knife has a "centrifugal blade" before opening the package, because I have never had a knife come to me with "inspected by customs" written on it. I really think that they are taking x amount of knives from china, opening them up and just destroying them or taking them home, and then telling the importer that the knife has a centrifugal blade and to be prepared to bend over get  HARD. To me Customs are a bunch of bullies, the true scum of the earth. They are alright for stopping bombs and drugs, but knives, come on.

I don't know anyone who would risk a government job for a cheap Chinese knife so I doubt they are taking them home, but again iv had dozens of knives come over from the states and never had an issue.

Heres whats happening I believe.

You said youre buying spyderco clones, I bet the way theyre testing for "centrifugal force" ois by spyderdropping the knives. That would technically be using centrifugal force to open the knife, so theyre calling it that.

Why theyre targeting you? Its probably because youre ordering from china, and the website you order from probably sends a decent amount of prohibited items into canada.

Feel bad for the canadians. Your gun and knife laws are completely asanine.

Hey, I'd take plenty of those "no good" knives in a heartbeat. ;)

what you need to do when buying any knife from china is to work out a shipping agreement with the seller. There are steps you and the seller can take to ensure the package gets to you. None of those steps are illegal but i dont want to post them on a public forum. If you send me an email i can help ensure you get your packages regardless of the contents. Either follow the email link in my profile or message me directly at purpledc400@yahoo.com

It is threads like this that make USA members not want to deal with Canadian members, this is definitely not the norm, I have sent and received approximately 30 knives and never had a problem with customs.

I find that karambit very appealing.

So do I ...that's why I got it. :D
(I take it you're probably referring to the one made by Rick Marchand)

A quality Balisong would be nice, I cannot deny.
But I'm making due with the horrible knives I can own. :D

Last summer I ordered a ZT 562CF from Finland, customs border services intercepted the knife and later seized it using the centrifugal force reason. Option was to return knife to Lamnia, they were good and agreed to the

return. Now the catch 22, I have a return option but was informed by customs that I needed a carrier that was legally entitled to send a "prohibited item". Only problem there are none that are available to do this. So I

coughed up the loss and learned a lesson. I then ordered a knife from Knifeworks in the US, I spoke to a really nice lady about cranking down the pivot. (BM Contego). She was happy to do this for me. Knife arrived and

no customs agent short of superman could have made that thing open with centrifugal force. I have to add I don't have a lot of sympathy for people buying crap clones from China. At least you are only losing a small

amount on each counterfeit you buy. My loss was close to $300.00.

I've done the same thing.
The Customs folks aren't evil dorks out to get people, but if they test it and it flicks, it's counted as prohibited.
So just make sure it won't flick when it gets to them. :)
