Why is it so hard to find a carbon steel stag stockman?

I've looked all over the place, and it seems near impossible to find a carbon steel stag stockman. Especially ones that are made in the US or even Germany without playing a really high price. Does anyone know where I can look???

I've tried Ebay as well...

IMO, Boker will be your best bet. Look for the tang stamp series. You should be able to find one on ebay sooner or later. Just my 2p.
.

Boker, Eye Brand, or Bulldog should have something.

You might consider getting a Case CV or a Moore Maker in Delrin, then have the handles replaced.

Stag is expensive. I was looking at a new Case recently that, in standard form, is $40. Same model in stag is $90.

May have to look at older knives, not many new one being made. Stag is hard to get now days. Like said, check into a Boker or some of the other German brands also. I'm toten a rough black handle Boker stockman with carbon blades right now, really good knife.

Could aways look into a custom also.

Eye Brand makes an excellent carbon steel stag stockman. I have two, both the 3.5" and the 4.25" models. I like them both so much that I am seriously considering getting a couple more to use as backups.

Amen!! For my money you can beat an Eye Brand.

If you go to www.mooremaker.com, they appear to have several stag stockmans in carbon steel still available.

The stag and bone handled Moore Makers are produced by Queen Cutlery. Typically, they are well made knives.

I just like the patina and how easy it sharpens. Now I have a new dilemma.

Moore Maker stockman in stag?

Bulldog 1st Gen Stockman in stag?

Boker stockman in stag?

Eye Brand Stockman in stag?

Kissing Crane stockman in stag?

Which one is the best in quality????

Look um all over & pick the one or style you like best.
I don't think you can go wrong with any you have mentioned.

They all sound good, STEVEN. If you're stuck, come up with the amount you want to spend. Pick the one on your list closest to, but not over that price. When you get it, post pics.

You can't miss.

I recently purchased a 7588 Boker with stag handles and carbon blades. This knife is about 3 1/4 inches long and mine does not have real thick stag handles like some. (Not too bulky in the pockets.) This knife even has the rounded bolsters which I'm partial to instead of the ones that tend to be square. It has great walk and talk as well. The sheepsfoot blade is narrower compared to my other stockmans but it's ok considering all the other plusses. Overall, I am glad I paid a little more than I wanted to for this knife-- I'm quite happy with it!:)

I'd go with the Boker :)

My humble opinion...

The Moore Maker has sambar stag and is made by Queen. Beautiful knife, and will run you over $100.

The Boker is good quality, but from what I've seen the stag they use is second cut scorched stag. It will run you $50 - $60.

The Bulldog 25th anniversary and the Eye Brand are both made by the Olbertz factory in Solingen, and are excellent quality, on a par with the Queen and certainly the Boker. The stag is white stag, not sambar, but is typically real first cut bark stag, and is very impressive in my opinion. Depending on where you buy these you will generally pay between $50 and $70.

I can't speak to the Kissing Crane because I don't have one.

All in all, I say the best deal for the price is the 25th Anniversary Bulldog or the Eye Brand.

The only thing I don't like about my 25th Anniv. Bulldog sowbelly is that the matchstrike nail nicks look like they were badly stamped. Not terrible, just not up to the standards I've seen on other knives.

Other than that I think these knives are pretty good deals, given the prices.
