Why is SAK Pioneer longer than the Cadet?

I was given the Cadet as a gift. Very classy. Perfect for EDC to the office. I also bought the Pioneer. It looks just like the Soldier, but it has the keyring I wanted. I was going to carry the Pioneer today, but I noticed it did not sit as comfortably in my pocket as does the Cadet.

The Pioneer is just a bit longer than the Cadet, but enough to make a difference. Does anyone know why this is? For those of you who carry the Pioneer (or the Soldier for that matter), where and how do you carry it?

There are several basic frame sizes. All of the knives start on these frame aizes and then they just add blades and different scales. Some examples are,
58mm-Classic
74mm - Executive, Ambassador
84mm - Cadet, Tourist, Waiter
91mm - Pioneer, Spartan, Climber, Swiss Champ
111mm - Adventurer, Rucksack

The Alox Pioneer series stem from the Soldier - which is Swiss government spec'd - and despite the commonly listed 91mm are actually a tad longer than the standard Victorinox SAK length - the Alox Soldier and Pioneer series are actually approx 93mm long closed.

Please see this thread:

SAKs - 91mm Vic Soldier & Alox "Pioneers"?

(I know I said 94mm in that thread - but on more careful measurement the Alox Soldier is closer to 93mm)

you'll see someone mentions the Cadet in that thread too (post #2 & #3)
