Why is the Civivi Badlands Vagabond such a freaking awesome EDC? Is it the quality of the knife? Is it the price? Is it the fit and finish? Is it the perfect centering, zero tolerances, attention to detail, or razor sharp factory edge that easily surpasses my new Benchmade Mini Freak ? Hmmmm, the world may never know...literally.

Do you have a picture of it?

Ha, it's a great knife...I wouldn't call it frickin awesome, I reserve that term for something like the kitefin.

I often recommend it over the Rat 2, I prefer a well done 9cr over D2, and it's not...weird looking like the Rat. Fit and finish wise, the Civivi easily outclasses the Rat.

Nice design nice price but 9CR18MOV is steel only ok
In my experience with my Civivi Praxis, 9cr is a darn good “all around” steel. I just moved houses and used the knife as one of my main “moving knives” meaning it cut a LOT of cardboard, cut food in the middle of the night while up late packing and unpacking, cut zip ties, packing tape, clamshell packages, did anything else a knife could be expected to do. It performed roughly on par with what I’d have expected of VG10 or 154cm. I had doubts about it, but that steel surprised me with just how much it performed.

I think it's freaking awesome because it's such a quality item with no issues i.e. no blade play in either direction, smooth as butter, razor sharp factory edge, and perfect centering. When I get that for under $40.00, I'm impressed. Unfortunately, my Benchmade Bugout, which I love, is off-centered. I've got a bunch of Civivi knives and they are always centered. I cannot say the same for Benchmade, as most of my Benchmade knives are off-center.

I'm a HUGE fan of this 9cr steel. I like A LOT better than D2. It does a darn good job of holding an edge for the money, and it's easy to sharpen, and is very resistant to corrosion. Being near the coast, corrosion resistance is a must. This steel is underrated.

I'm a newbie on this site, but not to knives. I don't really know how to put pictures on here. I tried to attach pictures from my computer, but I haven't been able to do so. Any suggestions?

The Civivi Praxis is an amazing knife. I have 2 myself. Again, the 9cr steel is underrated, folks.

9Cr18Mov remains underrated as a budget steel. It normally holds a decent edge and has good corrosion resistance. It's a nice step up from 8Cr13Mov in both dimensions. Remember that this is a $40 knife. Companies such as Kershaw, CRKT, and Spyderco are running 8Cr13Mov at that price or higher.

Now, that is 9Cr18Mov in general. While WE might not have the best heat treatments on S35VN or 20CV, they do an absolutely fantastic heat treatment on 9Cr18Mov. They take a decent budget steel and make it great. With the enhanced edge retention, WE's 9Cr18Mov is more than a step up from 8Cr13Mov on those vectors. I'd take it over Spyderco's VG-10.

While I still love 14C28N, WE's 9Cr18Mov is probably my favorite budget steel.

I couldn't agree more with this post. Hit the nail on the head.

If you are happy with your knife, I am happy for you.
Well, I do appreciate that sentiment. You know, sometimes you just get that really great feeling inside like you got more than you paid for like with the Cold Steel Voyager (Love AUS10 steel) and the Sencut Acumen (9Cr18MoV again)!!! With those knives, like the Badlands, I already know I got more than my money's worth, and that's a good feeling.
