Why is the Endura not "chisel ground" ala Delica?

My Delica is ..sooooooo......easy to sharpen and keep that way. Work ONE side and then just polish any burr if one happens. No trying to keep angles constant.

Even on the Sharpmaker, the Delica is much easier and faster to sharpen.

You lost me man. I have a Delica, and had an Endura, and they're both ground the same.

I think he is referring to the serrations. They are only on one side.

If he's talking about the serrations then they are also 'chisel ground' on the Endura.

Can you add more clarity Lavan?

Grinds on the Delica and Endura are the same. What differs is how they're ground depending on serration configuration. IIRC, plain edge is a standard V grind, a combo 50/50 edge is V ground for the plain section and chisel ground for the serrations, and a full Spyderedge is chisel ground the entire blade.

I don't have any combo Spydercos, so I'm going off of memory for that one.

I have a Delica fully serrated and an Endura 50-50.

The UN-serrated part of the end of the Delica is wedge ground on only one side.

The UN-serrated part of the Endura is V-ground. Is that just because one is 50-50?

If so, I would prefer the unserrated part of the Endura to be also wedge ground ala the Delica.

Whoops. Didn't see Planterz' post. Got the answer. Wish I had known when I ordered the Endura.

Weird. Has anyone else seen what Lavan is describing? I think I've handled literally scores of delicas and enduras, and never seen it. Every one has been double-ground on unserrated parts. Lavan, I think your delica just had a QC problem, and you happen to like it better that way. If you bought another delica, it'd likely be double-ground

I had a fully serrated Delica, one of the few fully serrated knives I had, and that's how mine was. I think Lavan is talking about the very last 1/2 inch or so on a fully serrated Delica, which itself is not serrated but still one-sided. Not a half-serrated model.

Ah, that would explain it! Spyderco leaves a bit of extra plain edge on the front of their fully-serrated, I mis-read to think he had a partially-serrated.

Lavan, yes, you get the little bit of chisel-ground plain edge with fully-serrated knives only. If you get an endura fully-serrated, you'll see the same thing. For fully plain-edge knives, or partially-serrated, you see the standard double grind.

Strange thing is serated edges seem to have been designed for left handed people. Held in your right hand the FLAT side of the grind is outwards.

Could it be that knives are photographed for right hand and the scolops etc look better than a flat bit of steel with dings in it?

- I hope that made sense :)
