Why is the Military so much more that the Paramilitary?

So I have a Mainx 2 and paramilitary and couldn't stand it so I ordered the military today. It seems to run $40-$50 more than the paramilitary. I know the military is bigger and has more material but it's in stock everywhere and the PM2 is not. I figured with supply and demand the military would be more comparable price wise.

What was it about the manix 2 and para 2 that you couldn't stand? It may be the same on the military.

Price point has something to do with profit margin. Sal said something to the effect that they were trying out smaller profit margins on those models, the para 2 particularly.

I think you misunderstood me. I love my Manix 2 XL and PM2 so much I bought the Military to go along with it. I got both of these for right around $100 but was surprised the military was so much more.

You wrote this.

I guess you meant you couldn't stand not buying the military.

I think it's just a misunderstanding. I take it as the OP meant "it" as "not having a Military to go with them" by the later correction.

That is interesting to hear about the profit margins. Nonetheless, the increase in material and therefore machining that goes into the Military justifies the price difference, in my mind.

Yup, I got him the second time around. IMHO, machining and labor is a major part of the cost of production and doesn't make a big difference in producing a small or a big knife.

Demand may be higher for the PM2 right now, but in terms of materials, the price point on the Military is about right.
If you want to use supply and demand as your basis, wouldn't it be the PM2 that should be $40-50 MORE, not the Military that should be less??

It would annoy a lot of customers if they raised the price, but I think that any of these models that are perennially sold out can justify a higher price.

+1

You are correct. If you look at the paramilitary 1 you can see that they used different margins back then.

Because its $50 better than a Para2 :p
I really like the Para2, but its no Military.
I really have no idea about how their pricing works, and don't care to. I think both knives are a really great buy.

The Military is one of the best knife designs ever by any company(IMO).
Congrats !

I bet the Mil liner lock is more expensive to get right than the Para2 compression lock.

Well my Military came in today fellas and I am impressed! Only negative is I wish i could carry it tip up like all my others. I threw an old laynard I had laying around on it and now it's part of the family!

Try putting it in your pocket tip up, get it out and open it. That way doesn't work too good for me for a knife that long. I have to do the finger crawl thingy to put my thumb near the opening hole.

Perhaps the Para-Military2 outsells the Military by a huge margin and the savings are passed on.

That's quite a possibility nowadays. Although I prefer the Military for its size and ergonomics, the compression lock in an amazing thing.

I'm fairly sure because the Military is larger in size thus more spendy materials used to make it driving the cost up. More blade, more scales, more money. At least that's what i have come to think. The same applies for other companies as well like Fallkniven, Emerson, Cold Steel, ect. I don't think you can go wrong with either.Had multipules of both. Like them alot probably like Para 2 more but think overall Spyderco's are just designed to Sci-Fi for me. Wish other companies would use jimping exactly similar to Spyderco's.They do it the best for sure that i've seen and place it on their knives exactly where it needs to be. Still have a Delica and don't plan on getting rid on it. Also think i like the Superleaf better than both the Milli and Para 2. wish they would have made that with s30v.

I have seen Sal more than once mention the Compression Lock being very difficult to get right, so I doubt that is the case.
