Why is the X5T not brighter?

It has 5 Led's and runs on 2 x 123A's. I also have an Arc AAA.

They are not in the same class nor is the AAA in anyway brighter than the X5.

But from what I can see from the two lights the X5 doesn't appear 4 led's brighter than the AAA. It's certainly brighter and clearer but not so much so that it blows the AAA completely out of the water.

Why is the X5 not able to produce a light with siginficantly more throw than my Arc?

someone is bound to answer this question better than i can or will but for the time being you're stuck w/ my answer:p

i thought the same thing when i got my inova a few days ago. after constantly playing w/ it ive come to the conclusion it just isnt possible.

leds have very little throw and just because you have more doesnt mean they will each increase their throw. there is no synergistic effect of combining several bulbs.
as far as brightness, i think it is b/c you just dont notice the increase in light. by covering one bulb i can hardly notice any change. coveringn two doesnt do much either. three is noticeable but the light given off is still useable. for some reason when i cover five the thing isnt much good at all;)

maybe someone else has a better understanding of the physics involved. if there is no answer here, try candlepowerforums.com

Because it wasn't designed to be is the short answer.
5mm LEDs don't give much throw to begin with and the more LEDs you add just gives you a wider beam.
It's basically a task light for up close work.
If you want "throw" you'd need a reflector or collimator of some kind but LEDs really aren't to that stage yet.
5mm LEDs wouldn't benefit much from a reflector because they're already designed to send their light forward.
They do have side-emitting LEDs that can be focussed and the high-dome Luxeons are pretty focusable but the standard collimators just bend the light into a tighter, smaller cone and still don't add a lot of throw.
The typical 1W Luxeon has about the same throw as a miniMag.
