So, this blade is cpm-154, which is wonderful stuff and can get really nice and shinny or mirror finish or can look excellent just bead blasted...

Kershaw decides this new line 'Galyean' will only be offered with black blades? Why would you do that to perfectly nice cpm-154? I could understand it if it was non stainless. Anyway, I like the blade shape, and large dimensions of this, but the handle is a bit too techy looking, artificially so. Wish they rounded it somewhat. Why don't they offer a non-black blade? This has happened on a few others over the years. Usually they are smart, like the skyline and offer both.

The handle reminds of a 940 a bit. Good looking blade profile.

But.. If you really wanted to you could break it down and strip the coating. No idea how easy/hard it'd be, but if you really dislike it that'd be a good way to take care of it. That's not something most people want to do with brand new knives, except for the Busse fans that is, haha.

Cost cutting ? Maybe they are starting out with this blackout model to see if it sells . Then will add variations later . Or maybe the black blades just currently sell better .

I'm not bothered by black coatings , except those cheap kind that scratch off easily . Then they look like crap . DLC is usually OK .

They made it especially for filtrum

With that bright writing on the blade? He's gonna send them some sternly worded emails.

And I think it's just what seems to sell, plus a coating hides imperfections. Crappy satin will look like crappy satin. Crappy grinding coated in black looks like a black blade with smooth surfaces.

The rest of the Launch models have stonewashed options... this one's a designer model though. Maybe the designer asked for DLC?
