I've followed a number of posts here and have always wondered why the blades and blade thicknesses are measured in inches. Why is this? Is it more accurate to go out to 3 decimal points?

Typically we do it based on the " but mm is also an option.

Many sites now convert them and have both measurements listed on their products.

If you have a knife that is 1/8th inch thick, you have to write the decimal .125 to equal 1/8th.

.125 is 3 decimal points-:).
I was thinking about edges being expressed as .002".,003",.007", etc. I guess I was curious if this practice is dictated by the machinery or tools because all of the tools and machines I use are calibrated in mm ( .00's - .000's of mm ) and naturally I'm having to go back and forth.

My digital caliper gives the user the option of mm or decimal and I tend to like the decimal system myself.

I guess I'm just prone to using what I grew up with. I was late taking to this metric conversion stuff going on more these days.
