Well, I got the knife back from Roger, to whom I sent it for HT (thanks!), but I haven't done anything with it yet cause I'm currently busy with another project: making me very own electric HT oven!

I've all but finished the casing now from steel sheet and angle iron. Going to use firebrick and asbestos substitute tape for laying out the chamber. I've ordered kanthal heating elements and a thermocouple for control and they should be here by the end of this week.

Not abandoning my knifey by any means, but it'll have to wait until I finish the oven... or finish the casing at least, since the high-tech gear is going to take a while arriving.

Are you going to include a programmable control? Great project, please take pics and keep us posted as you go.

You mention fire brick for the lining. I sure hope it is refactory brick.

Very glad to find you got the blade back okay. I always wonder about the mail.

Well I plan to eventually build up to a programmable control, but for now one of those is far out of my budget. :(

I'll take a coupla pics tomorrow.

Yep, it is. Sure had a lot of trouble finding it: all my local building supplies retailers only had the dense, heavy firebrick, which doesn't insulate too well and is a devil to work with when you're limited to hand tools. I'm also going to lay a layer of the asbestos substitute tape between the bricks and the casing to lower heat loss further.

Okies, the photos as promised. One photo anyway, but it's just the casing, which is basically a box made out of steel sheet, angle iron and lots and lots of 3/16" rivets. If you do want more pics, I can take 'em.

The dimensions are about 18" x 12" x 10", which, if I have 3" or so of insulation is going to give me an inner chamber of around 15" x 6" x 4" -- plenty enough for most blades.
