It is not a big deal to make good handle from nice wood, and it will be cheaper then have the same from manufacturer. Almost any scandinavian knifemaker selling blades - even Fallkniven started now (I asked them about this 6 monthes ago, that time they did not). Why nobody in US doing the same? I am big fan of KaBar 1217. I'll be glad to buy D2 blade for let say 50$ :) and make wood handle from cocobolo myself.
Thanks, Vassili.

I am doing this already with Helle, Lauri and Karesuando blades. I also have blade from Roselli and Hankala, but did not even start yet.
The only problem is - I like to make some big knives, like KaBar and Fallkniven and SOG Bowie...

Thanks, Vassili.

Um. If you make something like this, please let us know!

Ya know, people do things like this all the time - its called "kit knife making". Check out www.knifekits.com to see kits/blades made just for this purpose. :)

Some custom makers do kit blades, I just dont know which ones, but I have heard of it. Might ask in the custom forum.

Thank you very much. I know about those guys. I am asking about brands - like KaBar itself or SOG etc. Well known proven design premium properly heattreated steel etc. Helle for example sells laminated blades - same they use for knives.
I like to buy KaBar D2 blade, SOG Bowie or Trident blade etc.
Thanks, Vassili.
