Why no black G10-handled Dragonfly?

I'm a long-time devotee of Spyderco knives and love the Dragonfly (both I and II), but the odd greenish-gray color("Foliage Green") of the G10 version is off-putting and IMO not particularly attractive. Why not make it available in a more neutral color such as black, gray, or even tan?

Maybe they are hard to find, but someone else didn't know about them either and he was a Dragonfly fan.

That link is to the FRN version. The OP was asking about the G-10 version, which is only offered in Foliage Green.

You might try dyeing it as said above. I've had *mostly* good luck doing this to G-10. Micarta on the other hand.....Lady Luck hasn't helped me with that yet.

I didn't know it was even possible to dye G-10. I'd always assumed the color was inherent and thus unchangeable after the time of manufacture.

Would that use some sort of plastics dye?

I think the go-to dye is RIT dye, which is a fabric dye. I've heard of people getting it at Wal-Mart.

Use powder dye tho, not liquid. Boil some water, put in maybe half pack, and dip the knife.

Wow, thanks for all the info, guys! If I get a new Dragonfly 2 G-10 I will definitely consider that. :)

The Dragonfly is the only Spyder I carry daily. It is the right size for what I need, if I need larger I have a fixed blade with me most days. The G-10 Dragon Fly is the only way to go, still VERY light, and it feels sturdy in the hand.

I have carried a Dragonfly SS as my EDC for over 5 years and consider it the best EDC I've ever had (only the old small micarta-handled Calypso, which I believe is no longer made, came close). So the only knife I see as a possible upgrade for my beloved SS is the Dragonfly 2 G-10. Now it's just a matter of scraping up the $85. :)

FYI, Spyderco's Foliage Green makes a very pretty purple-blue when dyed with RIT Royal Blue (sadly, I never did this on my G10 D-fly):

Very nice! I might just go that route instead of black.

Question: Is the lock release button on that knife transparent? And is it a Manix 2 XL?

I managed to find the Dragonfly G-10 on the spyder store *dot* com as the daily deal a few week(s) back, think I paid $65-ish for that one. The Fiance used mine one day and I had to get her one in order to get mine back lol.
