Why no Cold Steel Carbon V folders?

I have about 20 knives, and all but one is a folding knife.

The single fixed-blade knife is a Spyderco Carbon V SRK. I bought that knife just to see what kind of edge a Carbon V blade would take - and it's absolutely the sharpest knife in the house.

Why doesn't Cold Steel offer a folder in Carbon V?

I think you mean a Cold Steel SRK -- great knife! Actually, CS does offer its Twistmaster series in Carbon V, clip, drop point and tanto, in two sizes, medium and large. Flat ground, great cutters but they require two hands to open and lock (at least, mine do). I believe some come with epoxy coating. I have wanted a Carbon V Voyager for a long time; the AUS8 stainless is an excellent steel but not as good as a high carbon blade like Carbon V, IMHO. I carried a Case slipjoint with a carbon steel 4" blade for years without any problem with corrosion.

Bad4U,
Welcome to the forums!!

Carbon V in CS folders sounds like a good idea to me.

HoW aBouT a SRK FoLDeR ??? Make the Buck Strider look like a butterknife ... OK, they'd have to shrink that blade down a LiTTLe.

I think the primary reason is corrosion. A knife that sits in a pocket will typically see a fair amount of sweat, resulting in rust. Despite this, I think CS used to make folders out of Carbon V, and their Twist-locks might still be Carbon V.

What Burke said.

I think that Lynn at CS has looked into making more folders in Carbon V, but there is the potential problem of rust, being that they are carried in the pocket, and are folded, with sometimes metal touching metal, (not to mention the pivot area of the knife).

Anyway, I like MY Gunsites and Voyagers in AUS 8 Stainless, as when I cut myself with 'em, I can't REALLY tell a difference between the AUS 8 and the Carbon V steels.

Accidentally leave a carbon steel folder in your pants pocket and run it through the washer.

I had a neat kissing crane canoe that apparently got under the agitator. Lord knows how long it was there -- at least a month. Totally, totally destroyed. As in rust-welded shut.
