Why is Cold Steel not on the manufacturers forum. It seems weird that the top knife company in the country is not represented.

Whassup wid dat?

Please read the FAQ

I really like coldsteel, and have owned several of their knives, and im actually in the process of customizing two of their knives right now. Even i would not say they are a top manufacturer, sorry.

I sent them an e-mail asking them why no knives with s30v or D2 steel or hell something new for folders and basically get the response "we use the best materials today and have no reason to change." i mean come on. So anyway ill be buying a BM 710 soon.

I doubt they'll want to participate in these forums good luck though

They will not come back to the forums. We are not their customer base, they target people who do not know anything about knives, thus making their lies/marketing effective.

Also, the manufacturers forum is populated by companies that make knives, not marketing companies that sell knives made to order.

"the top knife company in the country is not represented."
Yeah, I am also glad that I wasn't drinking anything at the time too.

They're right, as far as I'm concerned. Now I have to get in my Edsel and drive over to pick up some 8 track cassettes to play on my Radio Shack stereo.

Because if they had one it would be jammed pack with a shitstorm of posts by people hacking on them for their over-the-top videos & claims and their fanboys defending them.

It would be interesting for about the first 50 posts, but after it hit the 5K mark it would get old.

Also Sparks would have to upgrade the servers to handle it all.

Top knife company in the country?

Not even in the top 10 in my book.

He didn't say "top in what." :)

Top in hyperbole?

Top in unverified claims?

Top in marketing distribution?

Top in criticism?

Hmmm. I could go on, but truthfully, I have a couple of their pieces myself...they are after all disposably inexpensive.

Thompson's marketing ploys, base though they be, are quite transparent. Simply put, for Lynn any publicity is good publicity. If all's fair in love and war, and business is war--as the old saying goes--then all's fair in business. Taking stabs at people, puffing up, claiming to be the fastest and best, yada yada yada is how he makes his money. We all know it isn't at the grinder! Who saw his BIG booth waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy the hell back in the hinter lands at BLADE '07?

I will admit that they had people making some nice knives for them, even some high performing knives like the Trailmaster, or the one I have seen at least. I think that somewhere along the line, LT drank the Kool Aid (I first typed Kook Aid, first Freudian slip I've ever had on the computer :D). Stories about the guy that I've heard are just that, stories. I have heard some things from trusted people on here. I have no reason to doubt them. I just try to hold my firm opinion until I have met that person. This guy however has proven that he is nuts, at least in his videos, although it does look like he is having a good time.
People eventually find better products.
I wonder who is making LT's product now.

My follow up question would be, why don't their top players (management) participate in what seems to me to be the best spot on the web for knife discussion and information? Why is it that people like Jerry Busse, and Sal Glesser, Busse Combat and Spyderco respectively, frequent this forum and WILL answer questions or concerns or comments, and cold steel wont? Because some people, (many more companies are on this forum) stand behind their products and care about customer service relations, and some....dont. I wont knock CS here, its not worth my time, if you like their stuff great, but I would just point out that the people with forums here, have their leadership represented, because they want to. No one forced their hands.

is there a way to know which CS knife is made by which company?

as some are made by good companies

like ontario

Without a doubt, the Clan of Cold Steel Haters has created a hate filled environment that has driven and kept Cold Steel away.
Without a doubt ... Cold Steel's distance hasn't allowed us to ask them the questions nicely, so they get the treatment groups generally accord to outsiders, especially openly arrogant outsiders.

Who started the hate anyway? Lynn Thompson seems to thrive on feuding.
