Why no Dragonfly2 w/ G-10 + ZDP-189?

I was just wondering how come there is no Dragonfly2 model with G-10 and ZDP-189? After doing some research it seems that people love the sturdiness that the G-10 provides, and the sharpness that ZDP-189 provides. It also seems somewhat popular for people to do a blade-switch to get the best of both worlds.

Started doing the research as I want a Dfly2. For the money($15-$20 less), probably going to get the ZDP-189 because I still love the color of the FRN on that model. Just wish we had the option to buy one, fully hooked up Dragonfly2! Thanks.

Anyone know if this set-up is bound to show up anytime soon, or if there is a reason why it's not?

I was wondering the same thing . I believe it will cost to much . $100 to $115 .

You can get the dragonfly with ZDP-189 steel and Nishijin glass fiber handles.

Bladeswap time.

Thats what Im bout to do. Just got a G10 Dfly this week for that very reason.

The main thing I think is that ZDP becomes cost prohibitive. For example, I'd like to see the Endura come out with a G10 ZDP version but it will probably be $140 to 160 while the VG10 version was $100ish. Also VG10 appeals to the masses, ZDP isnt for everyone. G10 ZDP Dfly for a high price might not move. I'd buy them like OP though ;)

I would love this, I had my doubts about the Dragonfly at first, but after using it that little knife doesn't know it's size! G-10 IMO with some zdp-189 would make the dragonfly perfect.

I hear a super blue dfly is in the works, does anyone know if it'll be one-piece FRN or full liner'd G10? I would imagine the blueish grey FRN, same as the SB delica/endura comes in but I'd love to see the bluish grey G10 from the SB caly.

Whatever it is (hopefully FRN) its gonna be the first SB spirit I'm really interested, not that I don't appreciate the other models offered in SB, just not enough to justify the price, I like the dragonfly enough to justify buying that one.

I do notice a lot of people blade-swapping. I have a question for those that have done this....

Are there any negative effects to doing so? Is it ever an issue to getting the blade centered?

I play with my knives far more than I actually use them and (being that I come a jewelry background) I am a incredibly anal about the details. I want the DFly G-10 with the ZDP-189 steel and obv would need to swap to do so...but I was just curious if this is any easy thing to do.

I was told that it almost always works as long as you swap out the lock bar. Haven't tried it myself, although I find it quite tempting.

Personally, I'd much rather see a plain black G10 ZDP-189 Dragonfly than that fancy looking Nishijin Sprint model.

is super blue better than ZDP-189, or are they comparable? I would pick the ZDP over the G-10 with VG10, but if SB is superior to ZDP then I would have to wait to hear details. Bbbuut I would prefer British racing green to a blue/grey FRN.

Anyone out there think that the G-10 Dragonfly is justifiable to pick up over the ZDP-189, considering it's $20 more? And almost double the price of the regular Dragonfly

Thechukler, If you're blade swapping on a liner lock or a frame lock, keep the blade with the leaf spring side of the handle.

Yea its always best to keep the blade with its original lock, in fact alot of times (especially with a back lock) the blade only works with the lock it was made. I know on my two identical delica 4's I tried a blade swap and it wouldn't even fully open till I switched over the lock bars too.

I've done 3 ZDP FRN to G10 handle swaps: Ladybug to Jester G10, Dragonfly, and most recently Manbug to the Bolstered G10. It's purely emotionaI, I just feel the higher quality handle materials deserve better then VG10 steel :)

Things to note, disassembly will void your warranty, you don't always have to swap lock bars, just a matter of what assembles for best fit and lockup. With some models slight manufacturing variations between how the lock face and lock bar is cut can mean the swapped parts don't mate perfectly, that's luck of the draw. My Jester handle and G10 'Fly swaps have perfect lockup, everything seats neatly both closed and deployed. The Manbug has a solid lockup, perfect closed but protrudes a tiny smidge when deployed, barely noticeable, but none the less there.
If you do a Dragonfly swap, my FRN has a perfectly round pivot pin so trying to unscrew the pivot resulted in the whole pivot freely rotating, there is a simple method to apply pressure on the blade spine (I found this out in Surfingringo's Dragonfly post) to stop the pivot freely rotating.
One final note, mind the washers on the G10 handles! The 'fly is quite forgiving but the bug washers are tiny and super thin!
