Why no G10 Endura / Delica?

It started with the PM2 about 6 months ago. Then the Matriarch, then a waved Delica (and I wish it wasn't waved) and now an Tenacious.

So....I'm not a fan of FRN not that I'm going to get rid of my Matriarch or Delica. In fact I'm going to buy another delica.

But I really want a G10 delica or endura. This would seem like a big seller too me. But low and behold there is no such animal. What gives? A G10 delica would be really nice IMO. *I'm aware of the sprint from a few years ago.

A plain black non-waved, non-sprint G10 delica or endura would be really nice.

Both models in G 10 have been made before. They didn't sell enough to keep from being discontinued. They weren't sprint runs.

I have emplored Mr. Sal to release a G10 Endura in Powernoodle Blue. He will see the light someday.

I too favor G-10 to fiberglass reinforced nylon. I watched an interview Spyderco founder and president Sal Glesser. He said many times the designer of a certain knife either designed it for frn and price was not the issue, and sometimes the knife was designed with a sacrifice in cost, using frn, which decreased the cost of the folder to us. For him, it was all about design. There are many Spydies out there in G-10. I have a Caly 3.5 coming which is cased in two massive slabs of it. I hope I made sense. Just my two cents

Thanks guys. I'll go back to my daily and nightly lurking.

I read y'all's posts regular. Keep up the good info.

Peace,

Steve

They're still out there, but not easy to find. I bought a G10 Delica from a dealer about six weeks ago. There are probably plenty available, unused, on the various resale markets (auctions, forum B/S/T boards).

Bought a Byrd CaraCara2 FFG in G10 for my dad another one who doesn't like "cheap plastic". No, it's not made in Seki and yes, it's el cheapo Cr8-steel but you know what? He loves using it and I love using it. Also, a bloody bargain and Spyderco Quality in the build.

I wish they'd bring back the G10 Delica too.

But, the Caly 3.5 is very similar in size when closed. It carries the same but has so much more blade once open. Not to mention the wire clip is fantastic. My Caly 3.5 in superblue is in my top 5 all time favorite production knives. I'll never part with it.

I meant to say that each design has the pros and cons. All my knives prior were G10 slab on liner (or in the case of GB, CF). Not until I hold a molded FRN Endura, I found the comfort of the rounded contour (rounding with mold is easier than sanding G10) really good, and the lightness and thin profile making it a good IWB carry (nested liner). In short, the FRN Endura is most comfortable carry, nice in hand (grippy, rounded, all those good feeling). I can't imagine changing the handle to boxy/square G10 over SS liner.

Understood long time back there was G10 Endura/Delica, but never hold one, I can't tell how good they are in hand.

Frn is lighter, cheaper, thinner and one hundred times stronger than you'll ever need.

You're right, but there's something very different and very satisfying about the Delica (or Caly 3/3.5 or Native 5) with steel liners. It sounds and feels very different. ;)

I lovr FRN, yesterday I was zip tying bamboo rods (building trellises for my vegetable garden). When I was finished with my Delica I one hand closed it and just threw it on my asphalt driveway as I needed both hands to do something else.

It's what I love about the Delica FRN. I treat it like a knife with irreverence and never complains about it. It's why I will always have a Delica and a mini grip in my collection.

This has probably been mentioned above, but two of the biggest selling points for the endura/delica is their price and being lightweight and easy to carry. G10 adds price, and weight. I have a delica and I hated the FRN to the point were I almost sold it, but I loved the knife otherwise and the FRN really grew on me.

Still looking for that elusive G10 delica or endura.

FRN is not a bad material at all. But holding that G10 and flipping that Spydey open it seems so much more satisfying. You know, it's just what I like.

The forums seem to think this, but the market didn't agree. Of course, the forums also seem to think they should sell for the same price as the FRN model, which would probably make them big sellers. Too bad Spyderco would be losing money on every piece if they did sell them for that.

As someone else pointed out, they were not a Sprint Run, they were limited production. If I remember right, they were only making a hundred or so a month, and that out ran the demand. Personally, I think the Foliage Green G-10 was a factor, but I'm sure the price tag ensured their extinction.
