Why no kitchen knife forum?

It may not have been asked that often. I don't actually see a lot of discussion of kitchen knives here. Evidently, the General forum absorbs them.

If you think there might be enough demand, you would need to get a number of other interested people to discuss it, and to find as many fairly recent kitchen knife threads to justify it.

Try a search for "santoku" many chef's knife discussions (that I can think of right now) evolve from there...

ETA Just did it myself to check, it brought up many kitchen knife threads...

I did an Advanced Search on "kitchen" and found 9 thread titles related to kitchen knives out of the first 100 threads that came up (since the end of this past August).

Most of the threads may have mentioned "kitchen" or "kitchen knives" in a non-kitchen context, such as 'more kitchen knives are used in disputes than tactical knives or slipjoints'.

Overall, 9 threads since August doesn't seem like there's a lot of interest in the topic here. Of course, if there were a dedicated forum, some of that might increase.

By the way, if you aren't getting good results from the search function, read this: Sticky: Search Engine FAQs & Tips By Quiet Storm.

OK maybe not many but several, still not bad from memory...

Sheesh, tough crowd...;)

It's just one of those mysteries that haunt the sea ... or the kitchen, as the case may be. Case ... does Case make kitchen knives?

Sometimes a few enthusiasts show up, and the synergy will provide the interest and others will join them. That's how Whine & Cheese got started, isn't it? Whine & Cheese ... almost sounds appropriate for a kitchen forum.

Excuse me, ladies & gentlemen, I think it's time I packed it in for tonight.

Oh well, if the interest is not there, it's not there. As a long time knife aficionado as well as chief cook and bottle washer, I have as much interest in kitchen knives as the rest of the knives I use.

There's a pretty vibrant kitchen knife sub-forum over on that other knife forum.

Very partial to Japanese steel, but a knowledgeable crowd.

I would love to see a kitchen knife forum if the interest was there. Granted, I'm an Old Hickory guy when it comes to my kitchen cutlery, but in all honesty, I use a kitchen knife more often than I use any one of my folders, bowies, or khuks. I would like to to learn more about them to know what to buy as I need it.

I'm pretty sure the interest is here for a kitchen forum. At one of the other knife forums it is pretty much the most popular forum and many of the people that are posting on it are also members and post here at BFC. I think the old saying if you will build it they will come applies.

I used the advance search to look for threads posted to since the beginning of this year with the word "kitchen" in the title. I think all of these could have fit in a kitchen knife forum. So far I see an even 100 threads. That isn't too bad a count.

I have a problem with our creating too many scattered forums. There are topics I would like to see, but we have so many distinct forums that I can't visit them all. I don't know that segregating the kitchen knife questions into their own forums improves how they are handled. To some extent it will reduce contributions from people with only a slight interest in kitchen knives and possibly improve the quality of the responses, but it would also likely reduce the number of responses and slow down response times. I am rather lukewarm on the idea.

In general I get around our proliferation of minor forums by using the "New Posts" link in the blue bar running across the upper part of the Bladeforums web pages. I have gotten to the point where there is only a single virtual forum for the whole website.
