The now discontinued Benchmade Vex does not get the love it deserves. It´s a great knife! Strong lock, no play, perfect size and fit and finish, holds an incredably edge (not super steel but it works in real life). It´s made in China but the quality is awesome! It´s not open very fast, but it´s a true beater that will do everything you want it to do. I love the Vex although I Own the 710, 707, Griptilians, Nitrous Stryker and more. The BM Vex is a fantastic knife!!

It was a great knife, that crappy Gerber style coating they put on it didn't help much. Would've preferred a reverse clip too.

The ergonomics are lousy. The much less expensive Buck Ghost Rider feels better. How an admittedly good company like Benchmade came up with that design is beyond me.

For the money I think it is a good knife. I still use mine. I put it in the same class as the Spyderco tenacious / Kershaw skyline & OD1. All good knives I don't mind using hard or loaning out.

To each his own.....

The much less expensive Buck Ghost Rider feel okay in hand. How an admittedly good company like Buck came up with that design in Combo edge only is beyond me. :foot::barf:

My son just got a Vex a couple weeks ago. I'm quite impressed with it, and am considering getting one for myself, even though I'm a lefty and have a heck of a time with righty liner locks.

I bought that knife and hated it. The linerlock was too thick, and even with tough hands after a full days work it wore through to raw skin. The action was pretty rough and tight, and if loosened (i'm pretty good at finding the sweetspot) it was still horrible. I didn't like the blade steel, the hole had some pieces of metal that the stamping didn't get so it was hard on my thumb. I liked the G10 and the blade color when i bought it but i hadnt done my homework. Well, when i go to my local knife shop and they have new knives i buy on impulse sometimes. Anyways, if i knew about the tenacious i would have gone for that one if they had it.

Dapro,

I agree the Combo Edge on the Ghost Rider is a poor design choice, but I still thinks it feels better to use. :D

But your right, it is just my point of view,

I don't buy knives that are outsourced to China. That includes Spyderco, Benchmade or whoever.

Stop buying them, they'll stop making them, I hope.

I have 2, the tanto version and the drop point, both plain edge. Fit and finish is solid, I didn't like the tip down clip so it came off, and I like the ergo's much better without the clip on there. For the money, they are a good value, kind of heavy, but very solid and durable which is what I like.

There's nothing majorly wrong about it, it just lost the competition to the very popular Kershaw Skyline and Spyderco Tenacious in the same price range.

After a week I sold mine. I didn't like its thin blade compared to its bulky handle.
