Why no RAT-5 in D2?

Thanks to you people I'm compelled to spend another $100 on a knife I dont need.

The RAT-5 looks to be the most suitable knife in the price range I'm in, and I wanted to try out the D2 steel. Why the hell do they have D2 steel option for the tak, rat3 and rat 7, but not the rat5?!? Craziness.

When I first bought my RAT-3 in D2, we had a thread going about this very issue. Some people, including the owner of my favorite knife shop, contacted Ontario and learned they have no plans to make a D2 version fo the RAT-5.

Now that I've had the RAT for awhile, I regret purchasing the D2 model. I have trouble getting it as sharp as I want it. No other steel I own (S30V, 154CM, ATS-34, A-2, 12C27, 440C, 440A, 1095, and probably a couple others I'm not able to think of right now) gives me the problems D2 does.

If you're one of the many in here that can get it super-sharp, more power to you. But it appears you won;t be sharpening a RAT-5 in D2 anytime soon.

I have contacted Ontario directly on this subject. About a month ago they said the D2 RAT5 would be out late this year, early next year.
We will see.

Damn near perfect knives - if only the slabs on the 5, 7 and RTAK II could be rounded a little more on the edges.

Also because if you plan on doing any chopping, the Rat-5 is a 10 inch knife and d2 is not a good steel for big knives.

I'm pretty sure you can round them with a file and/or sandpaper. I mean, that's how they get them that shape anyway. I may just try a little on my RAT-3 (not that it needs it) just to make sure.

I take a dremel to mine....problem solved. :D I'm not sure if once I do that there is a weather proofing that should be applied but so far they seem just fine.

I have a RAT- 5 AND I wished I would never have bought it it . Its in 1095 and it looks real good ,but has terrible edge geometry, way to thick at the bevel, and is a bitch to sharpen even with this easy steel . Maybe its just my luck and I got a lemon ,which is always possible , but IMHO its a piece of cheap junk'

hahaha he has a point tho

my 1095 rat-5 i still cant get as sharp as my F1 and the F1 is from stainless steel for f sake!
