Why not phospher/bronze washers

I have two SR-1's, a bronze titanium and a gray titanium with a raindrop damascus blade. I really, really like both and feel that Lionsteel has put themselves on the cutlery map with this model, and have continued to bring out new models using the monolithic frames. Congrats Lionsteel, as you have my praise and my dollars!!

I just have a question about the teflon washers in my knives. Don't get me wrong as both knives work perfectly, opening smoothly with excellent lockup and perfect centering when the blade is closed. I just wonder wjy LS went with teflon when you see phospher/bronze washer's on so many new knives that are now available. I also want to ask if anyone has replaced the teflon washers with p/b washers, and how they worked?

We are very happy about the Teflon washer working, never had any big problems.

Anyway there will be some news also in this matter soon..... :D

I hope that news includes ball bearings...

Possibly for a new model or a re-design 'cause there's no way in hell you can squeeze any type of bearing system into the current SR-1.

Someone measure the SR-1's washers, I know the DPX HEST and the Dendra Tiger Jump are the same size, if the SR-1's are the same, we need to get a list of who might be interested in a set of Phosphor Bronze washers. I know many places to get them made, but only having a couple sets made is counter productive, the more people that want them, the cheaper they will be.

Forgive my jumping in late to the Lionsteel party, but I've only recently began buying DPx knives made by Lionsteel.

I have really developed a liking for these knives and have noticed they seem to fly under the radar so to speak, as you just don't see too much discussion about them on the forums. I think sooner or later this will change as these are really great knives.

Anyway, I've been following this thread with interest as one if the DPx knives I recently purchased is the T3 and the light colored Teflon washers are very visible. They seem larger than my Milspec and Camo handled one.

From what I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong, the Teflon washers do not require lube or have many needs as far as maintenance. What would the advantage be to switching to p/b washers over the Teflon ones?

Thanks guys, and thanks to Lionsteel for making great knives. Really looking at an SR2 titanium.

Joe

Does anyone know the size of the teflon washer, or possibly of a replacement phosphor bronze for them?

Forgot about this thread until now. I measured the thickness of the washers using a micrometer. But I don't remember what it was:o I WILL measure ot again amd then see if the places I have dealt with in the past to see if the washers are available. True phospher/bronze washers are self lubricating, but seem to take a little time to wear in and once they do these washers are really slick. I have also read here that the p/b washers are preferred because they will help prevent blade play. But I think a well designed and well made knife using teflon, such as the LionSteel SR-1, will not have any problems, and the ones I've had/have do not exhibit any blade play problems. The reason I am interested in these washer is that I keep a tight pivot and I am afraid the teflon will tear.

My bad guys, I looked at my note pad and the Dendra Tiger Jump's washers are
.025 thick
.495 O.D.
.196 I.D.

They won't tear, they are tougher than that.

Again, late to the party! I ordered several sets of .016 thick p/b washers from usaknifemaker, and they should be here tomorrow. Hoping that .001 won't make that big a difference. I ordered a variety of inside/outside diameter's so I will have to see which ones will replace the teflon washer's. I will NOT forget to check back this time with the results!

Sounds great, looking forward to updates.

The teflon washers in my SR-1 were .024 thick. The .020 pb ones that I swapped them with work flawlessly. .001 wont make a difference.

Just got through fitting my SR-1 with the p/b washers, and they were utterly horrible! Measuring the teflon washers I came up with a thickness of .021",and that did make a difference in the fit. Blade play was very evident, lockup was much deeper, and the blade rested against the locking handle. Couldn't have that and the teflon washers went right back in. Evan, where did you get the washers you used?
