Why not sprint run discontinued knives every now and so?

I'm wondering why manufactures with really popular discontinued knives like the Model 42 Balisong, BM Skirmish, spyderco spyderfly ect. just do a planned sprint run ever year or every two years producing about 100-500 or so models? It fills the niche and gets new premium conditions models for new users. Or better yet, pre-orders on discontinued knives that once it reaches a certain number like 100, they will do a sprint run for those pre-orders.

They do.

The Benchmade 806 has had numerous limited edition offerings.

The reason they don't do the second isn't because there isn't a demand. It's for exclusivity, and because they can charge higher prices and people will pay.

Because it is expensive to do sprint runs and it is expensive to keep the tooling around to do them and the model was dropped in the first place because sales were sputtering down.

Of course the internet can always find a bunch of guys to cry that they'll buy them, but when the knives hit the market, there's always some other expense that comes first.

Incidentally, the people who were foresighted enough to buy the knives when they were in production get very upset when a sprint run does come out and knocks the value of their extras back down for a while.
