Why not use her, abuse her and send her to the spa when it's time?

Sorry if this has been brought up...and I'm really not trying to get flamed...

But my questions is, with such a great knife and equally great warranty and service, why don't we see more Busses used (and dare I say abused)? We can always send them back to the spa if we take it just a bit too far. Maybe this is done more often than I think...but all the BEAUTIFUL photos I see are of pristine, NIB Busses posing in beautiful locations.

Perhaps we simply take pics of the NIB collectables and not our daily users?

Again, I'm not trying to get flamed (in fact, I just bought my first Busse here off the forums yesterday!) but I'm trying to understand if Busses are more collectables...or users...or both! Since I just bought my first Busse (due here on Saturday), I am tempted to play with it, test it...and if it gets wrecked...send it back to the spa!

And of course, knife porn is welcome (users or pristine shots) to prove me wrong or right :).

Users all the way.

I don't have any safe queens. I just spent a few hours Wednesday night chopping with my KZII. I had another of the guys use my B11. We were cleaning up an old Guy's yard. He had a bunch of dead trees (most fruit, but some thorn threes). A ton of light limbing and some heavier chopping.

Smacked a rock with the tip of the KZII.

They are all users. I have had to fix a few rock smacks in my time.

Photo's and video's of people literally cutting the roof off of cars, taking a whole car body apart, pounding one though an old logging chain! You name it, it has been chopped, cut, or destroyed with a Busse.

A SS I modded. Took the recurve out of it, and stripped it.

Some people even throw them.

Well when you receive your $500 beautiful satin finish blade in the mail, then you can decide if you want to take it outside and possibly deface it. Then of course there are dealers who want top dollar for their resales, so they can't really be using their inventory. Collectors designate users and non users from their collections, etc. I would say that it's probably much easier to put a combat grade through the paces than a satin finish blade, my issue is my first couple have been satins.

^Only have 4 of these now(aquired a few more users since ;)), wasnt too concerned about the resale :D

There are several reasons.
1 - many people simply don't live in an area that requires daily knife use in the fashion your talking about. If you live in an area where you collect wood regularly, hike regularly, camp regularly, or carve wood sure, but not so much if you live in a city where the most abusive thing you have to cut is your steak or a stack of cardboard boxes.
2 - many people have several knives, and if one of them gets abused it'll be the lower cost one.
3 - even when people do use busse's, that doesn't necessarily lead to a lowering of finish quality. With a nice satin finish you can baton through a cord of wood, wash it off with some gasoline/alcohol and hit it with sand paper and it will look like it's barely been used at all.
4 - your only seeing a portion of the busse community. There are many buyers and users who either don't post often, lurk but never post, or who are not members of bladeforums at all.

and others.

You need to come mess with us Indiana boys. we beat on our blades like it's a job. busses can handle it and they hold a amazing edge. quick passes on the strop and they are back to normal. there are a lot of threads with users and use to be video showing them being used.

I don't if anyone already said this but, me personaly I like satin's for users over CG. CG's show use more IMO. Worst case you can buff/polish a satin but you would have to send the CG back to busse to bring it back to new again. Although a lot of people like the look of a user cg but IMO satin's are the way to go.

Some people just like collecting the knives, they are purdy you know.

For me, if it's not a user, I have a hell of a time holding onto it. I only have 4 safe queens and 1 might be going soon for extra Blade funds of if Jerry makes that Hawkeye dagger available. That being said of the dagger, I still have 8 or 9 users and usually whail on they pretty good :D
