I love my Emerson Super Commander; I love it so much that ive chosen it as my EDC. ususally I beat the shit out of my chosen EDC, but this one has been babied more than others. That being said, it has seen some action and is in user condition. Why then has it developed up down play?? it kills me to feel the plade knocking up and down between the blade stop and the liner. the liner is almost at 100% lock up, and it shifts to the middle of the lock face when any pressure is applied. makes me sad.
Help me figure this one out! I am a capable handyman and I think I can tweek it into perfection with the help of some of BF's greatest minds/fellow addicts.

Also, I'm fairly new to BF and im not sure how to post pics, but if one of yall tells me how, then I can give you a visual of whats going on.

Thanks peeps,

Why not just send it in to Emerson and have them fix it?

Because some people don't like sending their knives out for 2 weeks and be out of shipping costs

You can do one of two things.

1) Try to fix it yourself and potentially void the warranty.
2) Send it in and have Emerson look at it.

If the knife is in the condition you say it is, then it sounds as if it may need replacement parts, so your best bet may be option 2.

With that for a problem, I say send it in.

The first two instructions will get you up and running. The next two are in more detail for more complex situations.

1. Paid members can upload from their computers, but anyone can open a photo hosting account.
I use www.photobucket.com . Download your pictures and they give you a URL for each picture.
Use the fourth URL, with the tags already in place. Copy & Paste that in your post here.

2. Another way: go to [url]http://www.imgur.com[/url] and upload your image.
After uploading, select the BBCode option - it starts with [IMG]. Copy & Paste to your thread.

3. You should also [URL="http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/353471-READ-THIS-FIRST!-How-to-ask-questions-that-get-answered"]READ THIS FIRST! How to ask questions that get answered[/URL] which includes photo posting instructions.

4. For a detailed TUTORIAL: Displaying your photographs on BladeForums

If the issue is as described, the blade tang doesn't have enough material to fully contact the lock face. It needs to be replaced.

Send it in, Emerson will take care of you. One of the best warranties out there...dont go voiding it by being impatient.

Try cleaning the lock face with alcohol and see if the slipping stops.

well I disassembled it and figured a few things out. first of all, the face of the blade tang is ground with a slight radius just like the old strider lockup. I think this is why the liner lock was sliding to and fro against it when pressure was applied. I got some gritty sandpaper and scrubbed it up and down against the grain of the grind to score the surface and give the lockface some grip. IT WORKED I TELL YOU. well, almost worked. there is still about .5 mm up down play but now it doesent wiggle further or make a grinding sound when it does, a huge improvement. thanks for all your advice, and its a super commander. thanks for the pic instructions esav

It may have temporarily solved your problem, but you also voided your warranty in the process, so when the lock actually does need to be replaced, it won't be covered under warranty. This is why you should have just contacted EKI, and let them take care of it for you...

I physically cringed when I read this...

Because some people don't like sending their knives out for 2 weeks and be out of shipping costs

Then to those people I would say they need to either learn some patience with a dash of common sense or they need to make their own folders. The warranty is there for a reason.

My new cqc 13 has a lot of forward and rearward play as well now that I examined it. I am officially discouraged now. This is my first Emerson. Qui.te frankly I couldn't afford it when I bought it, now I don't want to say I have remorse, I feel slightly rooked unfortunately. I purchased it mostly because of Emerson the man, whom I respect. *sigh*

Well let us try to help mate. Does it stick when you open it? Do you get full engagement? Because it might just be the liner not bent over far enough which is an easy fix!!!

I open it forcefully or gently it will have movement front to back. I am confident Emerson will fix it if I send it in. I am very disappointed to be honest. I have had the blade only a month and have opened a few packages with. I would hate to have taken it the the sandbox and had this situation. I love the ergos and looks, disheartening.
