Why so expensive?

I am fairly new to knives (especially custom) and I would like to know why the Emerson custom knives are so expensive and why are people willing to pay these prices? The knives seem very nice in the pictures I have seen, but some of the knives are as high as $2300! Any responses are appreciated

Actually, sometimes we're pretty surprised, too! :D It all boils down to supply and demand. Ernie's customs are very sought after, and he isn't taking any new orders. SO, there's a (somewhat) limited supply. With wait times for existing orders at 5+ years (!), and no new orders being taken, people are willing to pay high prices for immediate gratification.
 
Thank you Chris, I just ordered one of his custom neck knives, his custom folders are out of my range. Thank you, I understand a little better now.

Bottom line, because they are that good.
Ernest is one of a VERY few individuals that really knows how to use a Knife, that make knives. He does his own T&E/R&D on most models rather than relying on testimonials from the field. I have trained w/ him and know. How many other makers train ? Honestly ?
