of TOPS knives? Aside from the Tom Brown Tracker I see very little on them. Even a search didn't turn up much. A few words here and there. It seems like the few people who have them like them. Do most of you find them too purpose driven? I've got my eye on a couple of their little fixed blades that look to be really handy.

They are good knives, and hard workers. Some believe they're a little high-priced but I personally like their knives and designs.

Silverfox,

I have two TOPS, the Nightchaser and Border Crossing. The Nightchaser gets carried every week as a neck knife or belt sheath. Some folks like em some don't. I have been happy with mine. Used the Nightchaser to pry the door to my steam sauna open the other night after the pull handle fell off after I closed the door. And of course the door does not push open as it should.
I was carrying the NC as a necker.

Great knives.

Last night in Tactical knives, I noticed that the Randall RTAK from Ontario, was 10 inches of micarta handled 1095 for $80. It was next to an add for the TOPs Rinaldi Armageddon which is 10 inches of micarta handled 1095 for $300. The biggest difference in the two packages was the kydex sheath (for $220?) on the Armageddon.

I'd take the Ontario RTAK any day. It's a proven knife, honed in the field. Ontario blades are a little rough, but fully functional, and for this type of coated blade, I would not pay $220 more for the Armageddon. From what I've seen of TOPS finish, its better than Ontario, but who cares about "purty blades" in a field knife. Plus, Rinaldi may be a well liked knife maker, but he doesn't have the proven bush record of Jeff Randall. Jeff tests his designs to the max, in the jungle, and the RTAK is the current installment in about a 10 year project for him.

Personally, I'd rather have the Rinaldi Armageddon than the TOPS version for only $100 bucks more. But with comparing the two knives, the RTAK has a blade thickness of .187, and the Armageddon from TOPS have 1/4" blade and a more ergonomic handle. It's all a matter of choice and price though.
