I was just wondering. Why are there so many unused Busses out there. All the pics I see on the forums are of these unused knives? Which Busse do you beat the most? Do you have pics of it? If so post them here! I want to see your ugly Busse! I will try to post mine!
Also, do you guys have that Busse that you wish you wouldn't have gotten rid of? Mine are the MS, ZT-BM, BB-9, and ofcourse the Busse folder:)

She gets prettier with every use :D

I think alot of it has to do with two factors.

1. People buy keepers and users and then sell the keeper in order to finance their next affection; usually another Busse.

2. The is an alure to Busses. Poeple just really get into INFI! Therefore, as with many affection based collectibles, there will be some flux in collections which will surface as n.i.b. items for sale.

As to your questiona bout whice one(s) I wish I had not gotten rid of, all of them!:D

I think that alot rests on the value placed upon discontinued models; each design seems to develop a loyal following yet, Jerry and crew are always seeking to improve the product. This creates changes in the product line, which creates limited numbers, which increases value.

An ever changing product line coupled with a proprietary steel (which Jerry continues to tweak for our benefit)and heat treating method, the performance gleened from both, the espousal of many armed forces personal, and a flawless warranty reputation creates a bit of a mystique (perpetuated here on the forums and by word of mouth)that effects the collectablity of the knives; hence the pristine appearance.

Chances are that regardless of which model you own, should you choose to beat the hell out of it, you will at the very least be able to expect the knife to retain it's original purchase price value.

Then there is the Rabid Few whose hobby is collecting Busse Combat Knives...like all collectors circles, prices are measured only by what someone is willing to pay. Here, an unused blade is worth much more than a "beater" that is, unless it was used in some unusual manner or historical context.

Then again, I began this post with "I think"...what the hell do I know?

I've got users and I've got keepers :D

The users I don't have many pics of but there are a few, I'll try to post some later.

Generally my recent purchases are keepers, something that is unique or 1 of a kind.

My users are/were regular production pieces.

pension knives...if you can afford it, buy one for the safe and
one for a beater...I personally would love to see a "gallery of
Busse Beaters" I'm kinda hypocritical myself...after spending several hundred dollars for a knife I tend to want to baby it too...from
time to time you see a knife or a gun or some other tool that has
been used in a specific way giving it a certain patina...I like that..
if this intrument could talk, what a story it would tell...every time I get bit by a knife I'm usually admiring its beauty...it's like the knife is saying, "use me"!!!!

Hey thanks for all the replys.
Andrew,
I thought my BM was beat up! Holy Crap, your knife really has some character to it! Hummm.....I think mine is calling for somemore character right now...I better see if I can make mine look like that!
Keep them coming, I want to see some more pics!
Thanks

Check out his (before he eventually destroyed it) Basic #7...errrr....Basic #6.5 (courtesy of a belt sander):

I myself cannot afford to spend 600.00 on a knife and not use it. Therefore all six of my Busses are well used.
four are straight handles (five if you include my basic 9):D
and the fifth, a steel heart E is also well beaten.

Jeff

I'm one of those who buy keepers and users. My passion for knives spreads on both sides of the coin in that I love to use & collect them. My personal collection was formed for my personal pleasure and without any long term appreciation goals in mind. If they do appreciate I sure won't turn it away, but I just love my knives :)

would't it be cool to visit Cliff Stamp's house...
all the tree's around his place would have big
chunks chopped out of them...all his trucks would
have big Busse gashes in 'em...all kind of pipes and
metal stuff cut into pieces...definetly cool!!!:D

My guess is that they die so rarely and only after being exposed to so much more abuse than other blades that those of us who get spares for our favorite models never even damage much, let alone kill, the first one before Jerry releases newer models, of which we then buy a "user" plus spares of those models and barely get the user out of the sheath a dozen times to drool over it before the INFI bug bites again and we are off to buy several of some other model. (I hope that sentence made sense. ;) )

Basically I've got some "Busse users" that I use and a bunch of "Busse user wannabes" who are awaiting their turn impatiently. When Jerry releases something that especially appeals to someone, that person will sometimes sell other Busse models they already own that haven't seen much (if any) usage to finance the new obsession. Hence, the secondary market traffic is often in mint condition Busses, which IMHO is a wonderful thing!
