Why are we seeing so many zaans for sale on the fs ads? I think a some

of them are being sold because they may be to "tatical" looking.I see zaans

on the trading and fs ads quite often. Most of them that are fs seem to have

every little use.

Ive got 1 reg. and 1 tanto and just traded a lg. classic african

blackwood for a reg. zann.I really like them a lot!!

Why have you sold you zaan and why do you think we see so many

fs?

I was going to post this question in gen. disscusion but Id get comments

from that folks dthat didnt own a zaan trying to put the zaan down.:confused::confused:

A lot of people are probably curious and want to try out the new CRK folder. It does seem kind of big and that has kept me from getting one. I stick with the small Sebenza. I hope they make a smaller Umnumzaan in the future.

I was wondering the same thing Clockman, I agree with the to "Tactical Look" you said. I have 2 right know & the Tanto is looking better & better to me everyday day, More so after seeing BigMark's pimped out one. Its a buyer's market right know for Zaan's. Anybody that say's a Zaan open's slow has no idea what there talking about. My 2 flick open with my thumb like there are auto's, It takes a little practice. "Rickster :D:D:D "

I think for sum it's like buying a pair of shoes....if you buy them at a local store you get to try them on first...if you buy them on the net there's a chance they don't fit or they make your feet look 2 big.

Like most knives that get a lot of hype, they can be kind of stale once you actually get them. I personally didnt have that with my sebenza as I really like Titanium framelocks, but many people do.

I didn't like the Umnumzaan when I first saw it, I might even have said I wouldn't be buying one :foot: After seeing it for a year+ and having
the chance to play with a couple it just grew and grew on me. It's now one of my favorite knives and will be for a while to come I think.

It's funny as I am not a big tanto fan either but I keep getting caught looking at the tanto Umnum. in my friends shop. :o:p

Because it's not a Sebenza.

Right or wrong, for better or worse.
Choose the phrase of your choice, for most people CRK means Sebenza.

The fact that Sebenza's are such VERY good knives makes it difficult for any new model to gain traction. Having some configuration options available for the zaan would likely be a benifit.

I love my sebbies and up to now have resisted the urge to buy an umnum, but I do find my self looking at them more and more. I doubt it would replace the sebbie in my pocket but it would be nice to try it out.

To answer the OP, I also have noticed a lot of umnums on the FS forums given the relative short time they have been around.

I had one for a while and found it a new home. I will probably buy another some day, but to answer your question for myself: I sold it because although I really liked many aspects of the Umnumzaan, the ergos of the classic/21 are much better for me than the Umnumzaan (or the regular Seb - although I just bought a small regular with a BG-42 blade, just 'cuz...). I like the much better (IMO) open/unlock access on the classic/21. The improvements on the Umnumzaan are great, but to be honest I don't use my knives hard enough to make the "upgrade" necessary.

I agree with this pretty much word for word. I think it's become very diffiult to find a knife that really outshines the Sebenza(whatever one you happen to like most), even if it was designed as an improvement. Off topic, but I just got an XM-18 and I'm extremely impressed with it, but I seriously wonder if it will displace my humble small Seb for very long.

I'm guessing it's due to the economy.
I almost sold mine when I was extremely broke. Luckily, I came into some cash, and I was able to retain my cool knife.:)
They sell fast for a decent amount of cash; THAT'S why they're selling now, in my opinion.

For me it was partly what BobP63 said, but it also has to do with how much Sebenzas and Umnumzaans cost. Lets be honest, at $400 for a Umnumzaan and $385 for a Large Sebenza, they are not inexpensive knives and are a significant investment of money for a pocket knife.

Now I do not mind using, carrying, and scratching up my Sebenzas because for me it is the perfect pocket knife. I love almost everything about the knife and use and carry it so much that the price seems fine. I used to have 4-5 knives I would carry on different days and now only carry a Sebenza, so my financial output is the same but I only have one edc.

The Umnumzaan never really grabbed me like the Sebenza does. It is an amazing knife and a really great addition to the CRK line, but it just isn't me. If I had the extra cash then I would have kept my Umnumzaan, but as it is I would rather have a Small Sebenza and a Large Sebenza instead of a Small Sebenza and an Umnumzaan; because I like the Sebenza so much. Now I do have a couple other folders that are just fun to have and I rarely carry, but they both cost me less than $100.

It is also definitely true what bigmark408 said that if I had the chance to go to a store and see the Umnumzaan in person I would not have gotten in the first place because it became pretty clear pretty quick that the Umnumzaan is second to the Sebenza for me.

If I weren't broke now, I'd go broke going for the deals!:D
Just glad I'm not broke enough to have to sell my knives.
"My preciousess"(said in best Gollum voice:p).

I think I would have bought it if I'd had a chance to check it out in person, and I teetered on the brink of keeping it but decided I preferred the Sebs. Funny thing is that a large plain Seb, made up comparably to a 'Zaan (i.e., with double lugs), costs more ($20, but still...) than a 'Zaan. Even if you include the takedown tool ($12), the 'Zaan is still cheaper.

I'm on the other side of the fence. I have both a large and small Sebenza Classics that I love but seem to get replaced with other knives such as my Spyderco Military. Since buying a Umnumzaan it has not left my pocket. I LOVE the thing and use the crap out of it!! Just this morning I cut up 17lbs of ribs for a party.
