Swamp Rat Fans,

I'm new to BF and, Collecting & Buying Knives. I'm trying to get so much info at once. I've heard nothing but good things about this company. Now my question is what makes these so great? Why is everyone fighting to get one? and where do i f****ing find one!? And why dont they come with a sheath!!!? Are they good enough for combat? Has anyone here used one on a deployment? And what would be the best to get, that will be a tank so i can beat on in the field?

Thanks guys.

Welcome! :)

Where to find? Depends on what you want. Search the Busse/Swamp Rat/Scrap Yard For Sale forums to begin. The Company store: www.ratknives.com carries the new releases and there's various dealers that carry a selection for shows.

Why so great? Well, its up to you, theres a ton of info right here, just read away. :D

No one's fighting anyone, most of the offerings are not seriously limited.

No sheath, again, do a search, theres way too many threads that have argued both sides of this ad nauseum. There's no right answer.

Combat situations involve lots of prying and cutting, these knives are very well suited to that environment. And yes, they are all over the world with deployed soldiers. I have made many a rig for them.

I hope this helps a little.

Here are some sheaths for them. I think The RMD LE would be great for combat because it's shaving sharp with a convex edge. I have slashed and stabbed it through tough material(including thick cloth) in tests with no problem. It would easily stab or slash through a BDU.It's also incredibly tough.

Swamp Rats are semi-custom knives, so different models may or may not be available at different times. There are different "generations" of knives offered, and depending on when you come in to the game, you may or may not get what you're looking for.

If you go to the store site listed above, you'll see what's available. Some models are still open for pre-order, which means you can order the color combo of your choice from the available options. Other models, the pre-order has closed, so when they're gone from the store, you'll need to find one on the secondary market.

If you happen to come across some model that you like that isn't in regular production, you'll need to wait for a show like the Blade Show, and see if something becomes available. If it does, you'll need to find somebody to proxy an order for you, or watch the secondary market after the show.

buy a RMD now while still available and you will see. if for some reason you dont get it you will be able to sell it no problem and wont be out anything.
