Why the 0566 Stop Pin Hole?

Just out of curiosity (since I broke out the 0566 videos to try and get my fix for the month), what's up with the extra hole in the scales/frame-lock side? Looks like it's there for the stop-pin, but I'm just curious as to why this particular model has a hole in it as opposed to previous Hinderer-designed models.

Is there some special functionality or advantage or is it just a decision of aesthetics or to be different?

Because they felt like it?????
But it looks like the studs will still be the blade stop.

Maybe they originally planned on having an internal stop pin, and then dropped it in favor of the external ones? It is a prototype, so there may be changes before the official production runs.

I was wondering the same thing. Since they made changes to the 770 to carbon fiber. I'm really hoping that they do carbon fiber on the 566. Also I would love to seen some 3d machining on the framelock to make it more of a smaller 560

The pin in the handles should be the stop pin for the closed position like with the 056X. I kind of like the holes but could see how some may not. I don't think there's much of a difference between the hidden pins and the exposed ones strength-wise. It wouldn't really matter with this one anyway since the blade would only come in contact with the stop when it's closed. There's not going to be a whole bunch of force exerted on the pin in the closed position.

Prototypes are just that designs that are yet to be finalized. We'll know when the final run comes out.

That would be pretty rad but I think ZT is trying to make this one as budget friendly as possible. They'll probably end up doing a sprint/limited run with higher end materials if the knife sells well, which I'm sure it will.

I'm cool with it being flat SS personally. It reduces the cost overall, that is a good thing. I'm glad they kept the Elmax though.

The only reason they changed the 0770 is because people hated the aluminum handles. So odds are, it won't happen. For a production run, that is.

The stop pin hole is there so we can machine the tire part from one side. Making a blind hole on the back side would require flipping the part over and making another setup and fixture. We are trying to make this knife affordable, so simplifying the processing is key.

Rick's designs often use the thumb studs as stop pins in the open position and an internal stop pin in the closed position. The xM-18 does it, the 0560 does it, and the 0566 does it as well.

If this knife becomes as popular as I think it will, a carbon fiber run would be a no brainer, but there is nothing planned currently beyond the original version.

Since some of us have already pre-ordered and locked in a price I sorta doubt they're going to do that. But then, there is a Santa Claus, right?

Well were those that preordered the 770 told of a price increase? Lol

Either way I'm stoked to own the 566. But I would love a mini 560 with the same 3d machined framelock in a black washed finish and blade. ;)

This would be my guess as well....same deal with my 0200.

Thanks for the response man! I realize that the stop-pin is for closing only, I was just curious about the design change. I appreciate the efforts to keep the cost down for sure. I'm anxiously awaiting this one.

Lol I make them too. Mostly for myself :). Sometimes for people that buy my gun holsters.
I like making art

You are welcome to do it here as well, just make sure you have the matching membership. There is plenty of work to go around and varie is always a nice thing.
