Fellas,

I come to this forum -- the citidel of Spyderco wisdom, experience, and knowledge -- to determine why two (2) of the Manix C95's I own are built differently.

I purchased two (2) Manix C95's. One on eBay and one from KnifeCenter.

Interestingly, these Manix C95's were not manufactured the same: the "notched thumb rest/rise" on each Manix is different.

On one Manix, the thumb rest is cut with 3 or 4 "rough" notches.

On my other Manix the thumb rest is cut with 6 to 8 much finer cut notches, and I like the finer cut knotches much much better.

Can you tell me why these two Manix C95's were manufactured differently?

The more information the better.

Thank you very much.

Different dates of manufacture. Spyderco constantly refines their product, based largely on feedback from us, the users. The one with the finer jimping is newer. You aren't the only one who likes it better ;)

This pretty much covers it. Spyderco reacts pretty quickly to consumer feedback. That finer jimping is far more popular(and more grippy) than the larger jimping, so it was changed.

Huh, I wonder if they've done the same thing to newer Para-militaries, mine has the rougher jimping.

Here is an image that I believe illustrates the difference in jimping cuts between the different Mani (Gen1 vs. Gen2). Please correct me if I am wrong...

That's correct AFAIK, but Sal/Spyderco makes too many gradual/small refinements to really classify them as generation changes. It's more of a continueing refinement than lump sum changes.

For example, My S30V Millie was one of the first and still had the torx head pivot screw and eccentric pivot. I don't think there were more than a batch or two that made it out before the pivot was made round and the head went to Hex.
