Why the hump back on the AK-47 field knife ?

Can someone that owns this knife please explain to me the purpose of that hump on the top, back end, of the grip? Does it serve a purpose ? Does it get in the way ?, Is it useful, or a hindrance ? Any impressions are welcome. Thanks.

To me, it's a hindrance. I can't fit all 4 fingers on the space before the hump, and spreading the pinky to the back of the hump doesnt give me a secure grip. The hump might be there so that you can grab the knife at the end with the hump between your index and middle finger for chopping, but does people actually use it that way? Not to mention that you can do the same without the hump...
If it's cosmetic, it's a very bad design. real Ak bayonet doesn't even have hump like that.

I have no idea. It's a knife that I love the first 5 inches of and, well hate might be too strong, so let's go with I thoroughly dislike the last 5 inches. They said 2015 was the year of the folder and from where I'm sitting they put their money where there mouth was on that. I'm hoping 2016 will be the year of the fixed blade, with expanded offerings in 3V and I honestly think it would be cool to see some of the San Mai fixeds phased out for CTS-XHP. That would give a fantastic carbon/stainless one two punch.

I also strongly dislike the hump. Let's have more 3v blades with straighter handles.

It works fine for me.

I have medium-sized hands.

I guess that you are talking about how the jimping sticks up?

Edited to add:

If you are talking about the finger groove for the pinky, that works fine for me as well.

Including both the fixed blade and folders.

BTW, didnt read the title carefully, i was referring to the AK folding knife, not the field, haven't tried one, but i still think the hump is redundant.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, if that's the case, unless you have gorilla hands and the pommel is in your way.
