Why 'Torx?'

Perhaps it's been answered before, but I sure can't find it... :o

Why do makers use Torx screws instead of more conventional ones? :confused: I could understand it if these were large machine bolts that need to be reefed down with a two-handed wrench, but these are all little bitty guys! I'm sure there must be some reason other than cosmetic. Thanks.

I think the main reason is cosmetic; however, Torx screws are far better than phillips as far as not slipping out and stripping the screw head. This is an advantage for small screws with little meat on them. Also, Torx screws are less likely to be tampered with.
