every time i look at pictures of that knife i always wonder why buck would discontinue it. it is pretty much a tactical version of the 110 (they could always add a thumb-stud) i just don't see why they would discontinue such an all around awesome looking and preforming knife.

gear, This is one of those Buck history stories . That model (the 186 too) went thru the factor fine for about 14 yrs. . Then the ti. supplier began having some trouble at times with getting the handles to Buck . Then in like 2001 a fire broke out at the suppliers building and when ti. gets burning its very difficult to put it out . So, with the supplier gone Buck made the call to close out the model . Short version . DM

I heard that the plant that made the handle castings burned down. If that is correct, a new run of 560's would have to be CNC'ed. That might kick the price higher than what you can buy an old for on the NET. I should have been a speculator or a rumor mongerer.

Another interesting note on that model . Have you noticed many 560's you run across have 110 blades in them (they fit) . So, if you can find them with the 560 stamped on the blade its like a more complete set . Just my random thinking . DM

With heavy use the blades would get loose and not a great way to tighten them. Least mine did. Buck's solution to mine was to peen the crapola out of the blade pivot pin.

I never used it or any of the others since. Others being the other 560's I have.

There are several similar modern models that are better than the old 560 (Mayo). Let it RIP and be a collectible.

I usually knock the blades out of 560's and replace them with premium blades. I replace the blade pivot rivet with either a #2X56TPI screw set (2 screws and a 1/8" dia. threaded barrel) or #5X40TPI SS capscrew and 5-40 helicoil.
