This was one of the best knives made by CS IMO - Awesome blade design, great ergonomics, Tri-Ad, excellent price point, etc...

Any plans to bring this knife back? And if so, will it be in CTS-XHP?

I have no clue why they kept the XL Vaq and didn't just go to a spear point, the Voyager line would then be closer to a budget version of the Recon 1 series. I also looked at the blade trying to figure out what it would be good for or do better than the spear, clip. or tanto points and couldn't really come up with anything either?

The recurve blade slashes better, especially combined with serrations.

Why did they discontinue the smaller models? Low sales is the usual reason. If they weren't selling why not? I suspect because the Vaquero blade doesn't offer the flexibility of the clip point or tanto profiles. It is primarily an SD blade which is why they still sell the XL version, that is the goto size when looking for an SD blade. Bigger is better.

Both mine are older 6" with the I feel more than ample old lock . I bought a new on Its in drawer I dislike the way feels and to thick.

Blades with large recurves make excellent skinning knives and the "nook" between the recurve and the handle is good for draw cutting.

That is a "hawkbill" blade profile. Traditionally used for pruning and cutting carpet and linoleum. A hawkbill is one of tge worst blade profiles for skinning, you could only use the tip, and there is a significant probability of slicing or holing the hide. A skinning knife has a drop point, spear point, or clip point blade with lots of "belly".

Hate me if you like, but that knife looks like something Bud K, M-Tec or Tac Force makes for the mall ninjas.

THIS is a Vaquero:

The other knife that you are referring to is not.
The thread asked about the Vaquero, and it is useful for many different tasks.

IMO the Vaquero design just isn't that practical for EDC. I get some really weird looks from family and friends.;)
I only carry my large Vaquero as a self defense knife here and there. I don't cut with it because I think it would be a pain to try to resharpen on my Tri-Angle sharpener.
My xl is just a fondling knife, so far. I prefer Moras and machetes outdoors.

That's the CS Black Talon II, Cold Steel's version of the Spydero Civilian. Strictly a SD knife.

Spyderco Sharpmaker is better than any other for recurve blades.

I also have the XL, 5.5" Vaquero, but prefer the 4" for EDC

I remember using a vending machine and my item got stuck and I had to fish it out with my XL Vaquero. Snapping open the blade got a lot of concerned looks.

The XL doesn't fit my hand the way the L does.

Would like to see it return with the same Grivory handle material and the CTS-XHP supersteel.

I'll buy up a few more of the remaining stock, but the BT II is next on my list.

I wonder what a lightly used Spyderco Civilian sells for?

Lightly used?

The Civilian has no utility value at all. If it has been "lightly used" it's probably in a police evidence locker somewhere.

The Cold Steel Vaquero is a much more useful shape.

Couldn't agree more. I love my huge Vaquero. Actually, I really like the Civilian as well, but can't come up with a single practical use for it, once I open any packages I happen to receive in the mail. (and I receive quite a few). I own a LOT of pocket knives which would serve me just as well as the Civilian in a close, self defense situation. Don't honestly know why Spyderco thinks that exaggerated hook bill is so much better for self defense. . shrug
