do I get sent back to the log in screen when I'm trying to submit a post? Several times I've logged in, hit either reply-to-post or post-new-thread, and when I'm done typing and hit submit or preview, I get sent back to the loggin screen and lose all my typing?

Either your javascript or cookies are not enabled. Until you figure it out, type your post, then highlight the text and hit "CTRL+C" to copy it to the clipboard so you won't have to re-type.
