Why?

What else is as simple as it is complex? What else is as utilitarian as it is beautiful? What else is so versatile?

Besides they're more useful than collecting shotglasses.

Because they will do almost anything you ask of them and don't mind if you fall asleep after using them! :D

They fulfill many functions and offer a user a mean to defend, survive and pass down knowledge of the use of knives that has been passed from generation to generation and in some cases hundreds of years.

:thumbup::thumbup: well put.

It's better than being obsessed with feet :D ( no offense foot fetish people)
A lot of people are obsessed with a lot of different things, I'll take my knife obsession any day...It brings me joy.:)

Because my obsession with wimmin's clothes got kinda old after a while. :D

Actually, for me, it's just a more specialized hobby, along the lines of my tool & hardware interests. It's like any other industry - being able to make a knife, make it look good and function perfectly, and the variety & endless developments that go along with it, to me is endlessly interesting.

I think it brings out our inner biped with opposable thumb thing.
Deep down in our genetic code we are naturally drawn to such things.
It's how we survived for so long since our claws, teeth, speed and fur lacked in the real world of survival.
Tools were a game changer in the fiasco of evolution.
Why do I like knives so much?
I blame my ancestors.

Beauty in precision engineering combined with practical daily use.

Same goes for watches, flashlights, cameras, etc...

^^^This.

Cutting instruments were the first tools and are part of what defines us as human. There is an ingrained, primal attraction.

I was in photography for so long that I happened to realize the old Buck knife I had was dull as could be. I found this forum, went from there and am happy and not upsetting the wife by spending money on camera gear.Still take pictures each day but spend a lot of time here rather than photo forums. Knives are functional, aesthetic, and will not wear out or need repairing.
