Wich Mora for a river knife?

ETA: the site won't let me fix "which" in the title.

I'm generally not a fan of cheap knives but I need a new kayaking blade. For that purpose, a cheap stainless fixed blade with a plastic handle and sheath makes a lot of sense. I've lost a nicer river knife before and if I'm going to lose another I'd rather it be a cheap one.

So, the question is which model?

Obviously stainless, a handle that's grippy when wet would be nice and I'd prefer a bright yellow or orange.

Suggestions?

I'd say the Mora Craftline Q Stainless version. Only like $10 so not much worry about losing it, and Sanvik is a pretty good stainless. I'd drill a hole in the end for a lanyard too keep it from going overboard just in case.

Edit: Also, the Wahoo killer/ Delta defender knife on Budk is a decent mora knockoff for only around $2. Not saying you should buy it instead, but they're decent backups for practically nothing.

Mora Scout River knife, bright yellow with double guards. Mora 440YL. Also comes in other colors.

My experience with Mora is great blades crappy sheaths. If you are our paddling etc. you want a knife on your vest that will not fall out.
Gerber has always made a fairly inexpensive river knife perfect for the job. You also should avoid a sharp tip for water rescue situations.
Google "Gerber River Shorty"; around $35.

I haven't really had an issue with retention on my Mora's. Is more than I'd just like nicer ones. I actually made a halfway decent sheath for my Classic #2 out of mostly gorilla tape. The sheaths vary from knife to knife but you may just want to attack some paracord or something to it for extra security, especially with the models where they just clip onto the belt rather than having loops.

I like the Companion and probably the one I would buy. However, the Mora 2000 is less pointy and might be better choice for kayak duty. I like the sheath better too as you are less likely to loose it in my opinion.

The other thing is color.... color perception changes with depth. I don't know if you gain much of anything choosing orange or something bright. Zombie green might be a good choice and commonly used for fishing lures.

Kayaking can be very "moving." Get the Mora that has a sheath that will not allow the knife to fall out and not allow the knife to cut through and puncture you. From what I've seen of Moras, you may have to make the sheath yourself.

Many kayakers believe a river knife should have no point, so you can cut someone out for rescue w/o piercing them. There is a horror story on this board about a kayaker who was killed by being cut out with a pointed knife that cut his femoral atery during the process. You may want to take off the point as well.

+1 for the Mora Companion in orange. Great water sports knife & it won't scare anybody if that's a concern.

For blunt tipped Stainless knives there are a lot of good no-name scuba/dive knives with blunt tips & good grips/edges for under $20 or so. Serrated could be handy, depending.

I would recommend the stainless Mora companion, the ones I have fit very snug in the sheath but the clip isn't the best, a little tape or cord fixes that though. The handle is very grippy when wet and the blade comes razor sharp and is easy to sharpen.

If you want a neat blade, Bahco branded Mora blade that's stainless and costs the same as the companion.

I'd definitely recommend that you use like a piece of a bike inner tube for retention on a river trip.
