Hi guys, i'm new, i discovered the forum a month ago and as a knife lover, i decided to join the comunity.
I'm french, and i know that carrying blades here is illegal but still, nobody ever said anything to my father who used to always carry a blade since he was 10 (he's now 55 !).

by my side, i have a crkt m16-10KZ in aus-8 wich i realy love, nice sharpness, light, easy to sharpen, i couldn't ask more for a EDC but i would like to have a fixed blade for other (heavier) uses, essentially during hiking, little batoning, preparing food, very little chopping. I would use it for fishing too, maybe for hunting, bref, i would just carry it every time i go out for doing any kind of jobs. I don't wanna cut down a tree with it.

I searched a lot of information and it appeared that a little bushcraft knife would be perfect for me, so i read at all the reviews, top 10 blades i could find on the internet.

Nevertheless, i'm still lost in the huge choice of knives there is but one mark caught my attention: Fallkniven.

Their blades are magnificent to me, even if expensive, so i took a look to the f1, s1, a1 and the pro versions of them.

The a1 seems too big to be used for precise tasks, and you can't take him out of it's cover without attraction the attention of everyone, and he's a bit heavy.

The s1 has a good size, pretty much the perfect appearance, he's quite light, certaintly great for battoning.

Then there's the f1, smaller, i don't like the skin of it but the pro version solves this problem, i'm just afraid of one thing, is he too small ??

So i'm lost, i actually can't make a choice, and because i have time, i ask you: wich one would you recommend to me ?

Are the pro versions worth the extra 40% price ?

have a good day !

Not to further compound your dilemma, but, have you looked at the Cold Steel SRK line? You can grab one in 3V for less than your average Fallkniven. In fact, you could pick up one of those and a Pendleton Hunter and be generally pretty set for any outdoor situation that requires a knife, and you could get both in 3V steel for a combined total of $250 or so.

I gave an F1 to a friend of mine that was doing a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail (2000+ miles). It did everything he needed it to.

I've had an F1 in the outdoor rotation for many years. It's a great all-purpose knife, but no longer my personal "first choice" when packing gear.

Depending your source overseas, the Lionsteel M4 might just be better for the same or less money. Nothing against VG-10, but by all performance metrics M390 is simply superior - especially wear resistance and edge retention. Worth a look IMO - great sheath, full tang, comfortable handle - plus pick your color.

As far as the cost of the "pro" version, I personally don't think it's worth it. YMMV. In that price range, there's a lot of competition - even customs here. For production at that spend - Bradford's M390, TRC's ELMAX, and LT's 3V offerings would garner my attention first.

Thanks for the answers, i gave a look to all the knives you said, and i have to say, they all look amazing !
Lionsteel, trc and lc may be as good as the S1.
Have you got any other marks with great steels in mind ?

Not as fancy, but what about a Grohmann #3 in carbon steel? Or the #4 survival knife? Lastly, for better steel, try the production version of a Fiddleback Kephart?

One last idea, get an LT Wright GNS in 3v.

I dont realy like the simple design of the knifes you're talking about, even if i want efficiency more than design i want a blade that i would watch during hours.
I discovered some realy nice steels here, elmax looks like a real beast.
Have you got any other knifes with super steels un the 100-250$ range ?

No problem, best of luck with your search, still think the LT Wright in 3v would be good, maybe simple, but a proven design and a popular steel.

Check out the LT Wright Outback for sale in the individual fixed blade section. 3vsteel for 215.00 and a good textured handle. Just a thought.

That surely is a solid knife, what do you think about bravo leader squad un 3v ? Looks great with the convex edge (?).
This is more my knife style, with the penetration tip.

I like the look of it, especially in natural micarta. I get your point (pun intended). So you want a good penetration tip but blade length about about 5 inches? I like the Cordova Ranch better, but it may only come in A2, I still like like a classic look, it still has a clip point. I hope you don't mind me adding my 2 cents.

Cool. Let me k ow if you find it in 3v or other steel, A2 is good too.

by my side, i have a crkt m16-10KZ in aus-8 wich i realy love, ....

Welcome. You are from France, mon frère! Get a better folder from France. Chambriard, Douk-Douks, Laguoiles, Opinels, Nontrons, etc etc etc. France has a long, long cutlery history. That CRKT is merde!

Then get the F1.

I've now seen some cool knives thanks to you guys, 3 of them look very good, they could all be good choices, but i am very interested in having the best possible steel.
I know that there is no real "best" steal, since they were all made for the different purposes, but for my use (a bit of batoning, cuting some branches, preparing food, a bit of chopping...) wich one would you choose between Sleipner, 3V, A2 or CoS steel ?

Since i realy like the lionsteel, the bravo squad, the S1pro and the bark river ranch ?

thanks !

EDIT: Didn't find the ranch in 3v, this is so sad :(

Marcinek, in fact, i had a carbon opinel but it's tip broke (absolutly my fault) and i lost it since that...
I was new at knives, now i know more things about steels, knives in general, but still, my lil' m16 tanto is not that bad, if only i didn't take it semi serrated..
if i have to get another folder one day i would make a better choice :)
