Hi guys.

Quick visit to the hardware store today looking for something to strip a Ranger RD6 (5160) and an Ontario RAT-3 in D2. Guy there said "I don't have anything for that".

So could you guys recommend me a brand I could find by myself without asking.

I would also like to know what I need to put a satin finish to those blades. Green scotchbrite or sandpaper? Wich grit?

Thanks

A product that I have found to have **excellent** paint stripping qualities (although it's not specifically made for that) is "Castrol Super Clean". Comes in a "people eater purple" container. Can be found @ most auto supply houses, or, maybe Wal-mart. Will not harm materials, but you should use gloves, as it WILL leach all the skin oil out of your hands. Soak for about 24 hours, wash clean with "Mr. Clean" cleaner, or similar, and your paint should be gone. May not work if it's an epoxy coating???

Cybrok, what kind of coatings are on the blades?

Some coatings, like some of the epoxies, can be removed using stripper.

Some coatings are inorganic and cannot be removed with chemicals.

Some of the teflon coatings I am unsure about but I bet they won't come off with stripper.

This is what you want to use. That is my RD6 in the picture. Stripper goes on as a thick gel and the coating will come off in 20 minutes. I did not have to do use any additional elbow grease.

I will try to get some, but I will pass on the vinegar bath (that was to get a patina right?)

Where in this post did you read "vinegar bath" ???
I posted a similar post on the other forum and mentioned that I had used a vinegar bath to get the patina you see on my RD6. Cybrok has a good memory, that's all:) Sorry for the confusion.

Right....You can go straight to the scotch brite pad if you want to clean it up. Hope to see some finished pics:D

This is what I use, only the spray on stuff. Strips a Ranger in about 5 minutes.

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question: are Becker coatings stronger than those on rats or rangers? I tried using the same stripper, but the damn coating won't come off nearly as cleanly. I'm letting it sit in stripper while I'm at work -- will that have any negative affect on my blade for being bathed for so long?
