After reading all of the forums, there seem to be quite a few fans of Spyderco, and a handful of detractors. I want to gauge that for myself now. I’m looking to pick up a Spydie to get a feel for the company in general.

Which would be the best folder which (in your opinion) best exemplifies Spydercos quality?

I would like to stick under $75. It can really be any kind of knife. (EDC, utility, tactical, doesn’t matter) I just want to see what everyone is raving about. :)

Endura? Native? Delica?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Verax

Get yourself a stainless plain-edge Delica. That'll be a GREAT start to your Spyderco addiction.:D.

No question about it get a PE Delica. To me it is the quintessential Spydie. Whether you get FRN or SS is up to you. You won't be sorry. Good luck.

great, thanks for the posts! I'll place my order for a Delica on Wednesday. (payday)
:)

No question about it.Get a S30V Native.Although if you look around you can pick up a Military on the forums for about 75.00.It has got to be the best example of a spyderco.

Dear Sir,
I am one proud owner of Delica(s) and I can't find enough words to praise them :) I am sure that the Delica will fit your needs more than satisfactory. It is a good, low profile knife and definitely cheap considering the performance.

Just one small note: while the SS models do have more eye appeal, the FRN ones are more suitable for EDC due to their lightweight and better steel(s) used.

OBTW, there's also the CF Delica that has just hit the market (!). Limited edition, so you'd better hurry. ;)

Yes ,

Verax a Delica would do but don't place an order yet.

I am going to do this for you to welcome you to the Spyderco Family!

I am going to send you free of charge a Delica 98 model (slight NIB) metal clip condition.

Just bought off the Forums and waiting delivery.

ATS-55 steel - Zytel black..

Enjoy the knife and send me address so when it comes I can send it to you. :D

I don't know what to say. That is incredibly generous of you!

I'm shocked, thank you so much!

That is an incredibly generous gesture and one the like of which you do not see very often today. Thank you for making my day a good bit nicer.

Endura with Stainless Steel handles.
Good middle to large size knife. Very typical of the Spyderco shape and quality. Perfect middle-of-the-road knife that you'll find very useful.

OR, take a step up and get ANYTHING with a G10 handle and it'll show you maybe one step above the Endura.

I fell in love with Spyderco beginning with the Lum Tanto (I have two), but it's expensive now and harder to come by and I think it represents one of their high-end rather than middle-of-the-road knives.

What ever you do, spend $50-$60. Spyderco offers cheaper knives but you have to spend $50-$60 to start seeing what the company really is about.

They offer a LOT for the money. You'll be surprised what you can get for $50-$60. You'll be even more surprised what you can get for $80.

Go on Ebay. They have a Kazillion Spydercos at decent prices if you just want to get something to check them out.

I'm a recent convert so I'm just going to LOVE talking to newbies on this forum!

Verax,

The Delica 98 is on its way to you.

Enjoy the knife and Semper Fidelis!

Let us know when you get it.

Awesome, thanks! I'll post a review when I get it and see what all the spydie hype is about. =)

Thanks again Ceya One, your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Ceya One, that's a very nice gesture, congratulations.
Verax, enjoy your new fine knife. :)

Hey Verax,

after you got your Delica, try and handle a Lum leaf blade, that hooked me forever on spyderco ! It's a bit more expensive but worth the buck IMHO. As you can see in my signature I got quite a lot of spyderco knives and I love every single one of them (perhaps even more than any girlfriend I had :D ). They're fantastic.

So I just recieved the Delica - Thanks so much Ceya, you are very kind!

Initial impression - What a great cutter! It came to me scary sharp and cuts on par with my BM 940! It makes my Kershaw Scallion seem like a butter knife. (initial impression, I havent done any real comparisons yet) Lockup seems solid, there is a tiny bit of blade play in all 4 directions. (this is due to it being a daily user for someone in a past life, no reflection on spyderco imo)

After playing with it in my office for a while, I am in love with the hole. I didnt think I would like it initially, but it gives me a nice thumb rest when choking down on the knife to add a ton of pressure if needed. I also like how thin it is, will make for a great EDC.

The largest drawback I can see is lack of torx screws. I like to be able to take my knife apart and clean, that just wont happen with the spydie.

I'll stick it in my pocket for a couple weeks and let you guys know, but so far, I am pretty impressed. Now I've got to find out if the high end spydies are able to be taken apart! ;)

Thanks again Ceya One, this was a very warm welcome to the Spyderco family, and judging by the first blade, probably won't be the last. :p

Verex,

Thanks for coming to the family. It is no problem , this is the type of family Sal wants.
