Wicked edge and the sebenza. Thoughts.

Ive been using a Spyderco Sharpmaker for a long time and thought about changing it up a bit. So I figured I'd hit up the forum to ask
what everyone's opinion was on using a wicked edge on your Sebenza. Ive heard they are pretty good just wanted to see what everyone thought.
 
I had one and I loved it! Honestly the only reason I would get another one is if I had knifes that needed reprofiling. But now I just freehand using the sharp maker stones.

Go for it!

I use a Wicked Edge to sharpen my Sebenzas and all my knives. I reprofiled both my large Insingo and my 25 to 18 degrees per side starting with the 200 grit stones in the pro pack when the factory edge got dull. After being reprofiled, when dull I start with the 600 grit stones to sharpen. I now have the super fine stones. Before the super fine stones I would use the 1000 grit in the pro pack and then tape sandpaper (1500, 2000 and 2500) to a stone to get a mirrored edge. Sandpaper worked great to get a mirrored edge.

For sharpness and maintaining a consistent edge the WE is hard to beat. I used to free hand and was pretty good. The edges I produced however were nowhere near as good as the results I get with the WE. I sharpen my Sebezas about every six months. Starting with the 600s removes very little metal for the quality of edge I get. I have a Sharpmaker but honestly have not had it out of the box in years. Plan to give it to my cousin.

That is what use on all my knives,including kitchen.love it.this past week,took my 21 to 17 degrees per side,grrreat
 
I bought a W/E Last year, and in the 40+ years of sharpening knives, it has to be the best edge sharpening device I have used. As to your question as to how it works on C/R Sebenza. I us it to reprofile and maintain the the edge on all of my Sebenza's.
 
The WE is great for sharpening your knives. It is a good investment for sharpening and a pleasure to work with. Like all other systems, it does have a learning curve though. That curve is best learnt on other knives than your precious Cr's

Superb system except one recommendation right of the bat. Make sure you upgrade to the ball-joint-arms from beginning if you can. The standart ones dont do the system justice.

I have sharpened like 15-20 blades so far and i get better with each try. Also depends if you want mirror polish at which point you will def need the 1200-1600 ceramic stones if you get a chance. There are better options (diamond tapes) but dont last as long and cost more over time. The ceramic ones are a better investment.

Gotta be a bit carefull with, tanto, big recurve, Fully flat ground blades.

Additionally no matter which WE system you get you will def need a angle cube because even if you out the arms on exact same angle on both sides the angles r not usually same and it negates the entire system if your angles are not same from both sides.

EDIT: most important thing get some cheap knives from a flea market if you dont already have some to practice on because of the learning curve. Also the diamond stones when new should be used on cheap blades because you have a lot of excess diamond dust on them that falls of on first few sharpenings. One of the most important things is to place the blade correctly. They have a pictured instructions make sure u read them
 
I only use the sharpmaker. Have been using this style of knife sharpener for over 30 years. From the vintage Crock Sticks to the Sharpmaker. Nothing better in my experience.
 
I use a Sharp maker as well. I "like" it for ease of sharpening and maintaining an edge, but I can never get my edges REALLY sharp. I'm too scared to even get a WE because I don't want those huge mirrored bevels I see. To me it looks like overkill as far as looks go. May be sharper than sharp but I don't think I can live with the looks.
