Wicked Edge ball joint arms upgrade vs. original question

Hello everybody,
I'm wondering if most people here have upgraded from the original arms to the ball-joint arms? If so, are you pleased with the new ones? Are the ball joints smooth? I have the original Pro Pack 1 with the hinged joints and smaller arms, and am considering the upgrade. I don't want to waste money if it's not a significant improvement.

Thanks,
Dave

I upgraded to the new arms and I am very happy with them. They are smoother and the micro adjustment gives the ability to perfectly match edge angles.

I upgraded my Pro 1 package with the Ball Arms and I really wish I had gotten them earlier. The system is good without them but it is insanely awesome with them.

With the balljoint arms it's not so much being smoother as it is being incredibly accurate. You go from 1 degree accuracy at best to 0.01 degree accuracy if not better depending on your measurement device. It allows you to micro adjust the angle instead of a 1 degree slot.

If you already have the pack and are even considering it, get it and you will thank me and yourself later.

Thank you for the responses. I ordered the upgrade kit.

I have another question: How much "slop" is there in the arms/handles combination? Is it more than enough to offset the accuracy (down to .1 degrees)?

Good sharpening,
Dave

The upgraded arms has no measurable "slop" that I'm aware of. It is a perfectly tight fit.

EDIT: I just thought about it but if you order from Oldawaan and you dislike them you can return them for a fee.

Thank bigshoe and Jazic for convincing me to buy the new arms kit. It arrived today and I have used it. It is a serious improvement over the stock ones. I no longer have to concentrate on holding the paddles a certain way and moving a certain way to offset the variation caused by the looseness (slop) in the original system. Now I can just focus on the process and results.

Good sharpening,
Dave
