Wicked edge design flaw? Example Endura FFG

I have a wicked pro ll that I am getting fairly proficient with. Last night I decided to put a nice edge on a brand new Endura 4 FFG. The problem I ran into was that the overhang on the the WEP paddles hung up at the rear of the blade leaving that section largely untouched. I was vexed that it seemed to be a collision of the two products' design flaws. The overhang on the WEP paddles and the Spyderco Endura 4 blade design where the blade meets the tang.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

It's not a design flaw I don't believe... The plastic lips on the paddles are there for safety. I ground mine off with my belt grinder though for just the reasons you stated.

When clamping your ffg spyderco's in the clamp, clamp it at the base/flat part and tilt the tip down. This will give you a nice consistent edge that will keep your blade stable while sharpening.

Ahh the world of safety .....
Like I said it seems to collide will the design of the Endura . Why Spyderco has that tang of the blade so high in relation to the blade is a mystery to me. Not looking forward to grinding my paddles but it seems I may need to go there.....&@$&@$$&@! ;)

On the Endura it looks as though hitting that part of the tang with the 100 stone at an angle wide enough to clear the plastic paddle edges would be an interim fix for that particular knife.

Btw I resisted the urge to DM you again on this. You have been exceeding helpful. I look forward to reciprocating some day.....

You "could" add a sharpening notch to your Endura if you don't want to grind all your stones.

Some people don't like sharpening notches as they tend to catch on things you're trying to cut.

Just another option.

I myself just live with the edge where it ends. I may decide to grind down the edges of my stones someday.

Anytime buddy! And aquaman also has a good solution... Personally I like a shallow sharpening notch.
