Hello BF folks,

I picked up a Wicked Edge recently. I've got the stone broken in now and I want to start working on my higher quality blades. I want to sharpen up and put a polished edge on a Protech Godson. Here is a picture for reference:

I need some help. I am not sure how I should clamp in the blade. Would I just rest the spine flat on the depth key? This would make the secondary bevel uneven as it is sits clamped in. Or should I place the blade so that it is exactly perpendicular to the clamp?

Does that make sense?

Thoughts? Thank you!!!

You can do it either way. It actually won't be uneven if you rest the spine on the depth key, just mark the edge with a Sharpie and adjust where you want metal removed. Or you can make it parallel with the clamp (but still mark and check of course). Just make a note so you do the same thing each time you sharpen or touch up the blade.

(One reason to do the 2nd method is it provides more clearance so the stone won't hit the clamp... depending on the knife.)
